Described as “beautiful, stylish stuff that just might infiltrate your daydreams” by the Fort Worth Star Telegram and “that strange collective with a penchant for writing the most radio-friendly songs this side of L.A.” by the Dallas Observer, The Bright - at its core - is always about delivering hooks, both familiar and unique with a certain unpredictability that is tasteful, emotional, memorable and relatable. Drawing from an array of British Rock eras and influences, the vocal dynamic ranges from breathy chill, to sexy modern pop, to intense and even at times operatic (as reflected by their ambitious cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir”) with an underlay of dreamy/thick guitar swirls and powerful rhythms. The band has also solidified a cross-over appeal by performing alongside artists that range from eclectic producer/recording artist Timbaland at Dallas’ House of Blues and classic rocker Billy Squier at DFW’s Verizon Theatre to performing in front of hundreds of thousands viewing the main stage and television broadcast at one of the country’s largest New Year’s celebrations, Big D NYE ( www.bigdnye.com ), outside the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX.
After releasing their debut LP in 2007, “In Lucid Dreams”, the band was approached by MTV and Fox Sports to license songs from the album for use in the networks’ programming. Since then, The Bright’s songs have been featured in MTV’s “The Hills”, “Parental Control”, “Teen Cribs”, “My Sweet Sixteen”, the multi-platform broadcast / V-cast Verizon Network supernatural series “Valemont” and Fox Sports’ Vizio Profiles. The Bright has also received prominent airplay in the L.A. market on KKZQ 100.1 The Edge, in Grand Rapids, MI on WGRD 97.9, via the web on the Renegade Radio Network as well as abroad via radio segments hosted by English music journalist Kelv Hellrazor.
The Bright has also partnered with the social network Share The Mic (www.sharethemic.com), an organization that brings together artists, charities and foundations into a unique network that mutually supports an artist’s drive to build a fan base and a charitable institution’s need to raise awareness. Through this relationship, the band has been matched with the charity Autism Speaks, an advocacy organization the band is very passionate about.
Currently the band is in the studio recording new material set for release in early 2011. Their latest self-released effort “In Lucid Dreams”, produced by Eric Jenkins, engineered by Taylor Tatsch at Bass Propulsion Labs in Dallas, TX is available for download on iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster and Amazon.

Curious
The Bright Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And making him take me back down to the water
That lake where we sailed and laughed with our father
I will not desert him, I will not desert him
No matter how I may wish for a coffin so clean
Or these trees to undress all their leaves onto me
I put my face in the dirt and then finally I see
(You shine)
(Cool)
(Know who I am?)
That is exactly how I feel
This looks like "Blues 101"
I started this letter, I'm going to send it to Ruba
It will be blessed by her eyes on the gulf coast of Florida
With her feet in the sand and one hand on her swimsuit
She will recite the prayer of my pen
Saying, "Time take us forward, relief from this longing"
"They can land that plane on my heart, I don't care"
"Just give me November, the warmth of a whisper"
"In the freezing darkness of my room""
But no matter what I would do in an attempt to replace
All the pills that I take trying to balance my brain
I have seen the curious girl with that look on her face
So surprised she stares out from her display case
The Bright's song Curious appears to be about finding oneself and the struggles that come with that journey. The song opens with the singer waking up and deciding to find their brother and revisit a location that holds sentimental value to them, the lake where they once sailed with their father. They make a promise to their brother not to abandon him, indicating a bond of loyalty and camaraderie. However, the singer acknowledges the morbid thoughts they have been entertaining, wishing for a clean coffin or trees shedding their leaves on them. They eventually put their face in the dirt, leading to a realization of the sky that they had failed to notice prior.
The lyrics then switch to a letter the singer intends to send to Ruba on the Gulf Coast of Florida. They mention the longing for relief from their struggles, despite any efforts they make to balance themselves out. The singer expresses a desire for November, and the warmth of a whisper, seemingly alluding to a sense of comfort and safety. However, the song ultimately ends on an enigmatic note, mentioning a curious girl with a bewildered expression. The song as a whole appears to tackle themes of mortality, longing, and the pursuit of comfort.

"We have a song called “When the Curious Girl Realizes She’s Under Glass,” that I wanted to sound like someone eavesdropping on their neighbor, like, in the next-door apartment. So the whole song is recorded so that it sounds weird and muffled. You can hear the neighbor walking around, and turning on the TV and looking for a station. Anyone who didn’t know the idea would probably think it was the most annoying song ever, but, for me, it captured my idea perfectly." --Conor Oberst

This is like my favorite Bright Eyes song. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Definitely one of my favorite Bright Eyes songs. I love the piano part at 0:58 even though I think it just goes up and down the scale note by note. I also love the footsteps and muffled TV set. It's amazing how something so seemingly simple can have so much meaning.

And it’s in C so it’s legit straight up the white keys. So great though.

I use to listen to this so much in the mid 2000s. Forgot the name of it..looked for it for the past 7 years. Today I found it. Thank you for uploading.

I've been a fan for more than 10 years. This brings me right back to the trenches of adolescence when I first heard it. I'm seeking the same comfort from this song now as I was then. Timeless.
