Don Rich was truely outstanding. He and Buck harmonized well. On a sad note Don Rich died tragically in a motorcycle accident. Buck Owens was very effected by his sudden death.

My family used to get together and watch Hee Haw on TV.vwI thought of this song in literal terms as a kid. I could "see" him scratched up and in a terrible mess. Oh, I couldn't help but think of this song when Exxon had "tiger tails" to put on gas cap lids! I could "see" being dragged along side of any car that hadcone.

In reality, Don Rich and Buck were a duo. Don was 31 when he died in a motorcycle crash, and Buck was devastated, to the point where he never really recovered. His music took a bad hit too, but to see these two best friends, so close they were like brothers, making some of the best Country music ever is just wonderful.

When I was a little kid I thought Country music was crap. I was a little music snob, but to my credit, I always watched those Country Western shows on TV on the weekends, like the Buck Owens Show, so I couldn´t have hated it that much. Now I look at these guys, especially Don and Buck and I get all emotional. The CW musicians today, maybe they´re as good as the musicians in the 60s, but how would we know? It´s all loops and effects nowadays, and the bands all sound alike. And I don´t know that the Bakersfield Sound would even be popular today. And what about the others? The Roy Clarks and Glenn Campbells? Could they make it today? I´m not sure they could. Maybe Willie could make it all over again, because he´s such a character but the rest?

Buck should have been a movie star, like in the song. He was the most handsome white guy who ever lived.
