Sick and Tired
The Cardigans Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sick, tired and homeless
With no one here to sing for
Tired of being weightless
For all these looking good boys

You can always say my attic has its charm
You can always say you did no major harm
You can always that summer had its charm
And that you did no major harm
Oh, spare me if you please

Sick, tired an sleepless
With no one else to shine for
Sick of all my distress
But I won't show I'm still poor

Symptoms are so deep
Something here's so wrong
Nothing is complete
Nowhere to belong
Symptoms are so deep
I think I'd better stay

Here on my own
So spare me if you please

Overall Meaning

The Cardigans's song Sick & Tired is a melancholic reflection on feeling lost and disconnected from the world. The lyrics paint a picture of someone who is sick, tired, and homeless, with no one around to sing for or to feel a sense of belonging with. The lines "Tired of being weightless for all these looking good boys" convey a sense of frustration and resentment towards those who seem to have it all together while the singer struggles to find their place.

The chorus offers a glimmer of hope amidst the bleakness, with the singer acknowledging that there are some positive aspects to their situation ("You can always say my attic has its charm / You can always say you did no major harm / You can always that summer had its charm / And that you did no major harm") but ultimately rejecting any attempts to downplay their pain or dismiss their struggles ("Oh, spare me if you please").

The second verse continues the theme of feeling isolated and unsupported, with the lyrics "Sick, tired and sleepless / With no one else to shine for / Sick of all my distress / But I won't show I'm still poor". The repeated refrain of "Symptoms are so deep / Something here's so wrong / Nothing is complete / Nowhere to belong" reinforces the sense of despair and disconnection.

Overall, Sick & Tired is a poignant and introspective song that captures the feeling of being lost and alone in the world. It's a powerful reminder of the importance of empathy and connection, and a call to be more mindful of the struggles that others may be facing.

The most underrated band on the moon

That flute is genius

@Evildandalo

The mixing on this song is extremely unique and very subdued for a rock group. The super clean rhythm guitars, the almost non existent kick drum, and even just the little weird stuff like the snare being hard panned to the right make the song really dynamic and airy in a way I never would think to take a mix of this genre, very inspiring tbh.

@bigpulgalokes

They’re not rock

@Leri-K

@@bigpulgalokes Not even Soft Rock?

@Talisayin

@@Leri-K Peter and Magnus were metal heads before they started the band... their album Gran Turismo was the closest to rock they got but I’m still not sure if I’d consider them a rock group because their style has changed so much

@TerryODowd

@@bigpulgalokes Guitar, Bass, and Drums. That's rock. Soft rock, but still rock.
Also, they played live shows without a backing track.

@FugitiveGames

It reminds of, like, mixing they did for old mono songs that were remastered for stereo, it gives them a very classic Americana feel.

I saw them in Atlanta in 1995 and it was an amazing show- I was 16 and bought all of their European released records and singles. Those were the days

@susanyorke3676
