Ain't No Sunshine
The Cause Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When he's gone
It's not warm when he's away
Ain't no sunshine
When he's gone
And he's always gone too long
Any time he goes away
Wonder this time
Wonder if he's gonna stay
Ain´t no sunshine
When he's gone
This house
Just ain't no home
Any time he goes away
And I know,I know,I know,I know
You know the reason
Why he packed up
Like he didn't hear you
When you said
He ought to back up
It´s alright he enticed you
With that pillow talk
Not you this time it's him
Who's going to take a walk
Right down memory lane
Your name is not lois
And he ain't Forrest Gump
So bump he pumped
Cause he ain't real
Just kick it
Like brandy on the move
Hey, I'm gonna
Leave young thing alone
But ain't no sunshine
When he's gone
Ain't no sunshine
When he's gone
Only darkness every day
Ain't no sunshine
When he's gone
This house just ain't no home
Any time he goes away
The Cause's "Ain't No Sunshine" is a classic song with powerful and emotional lyrics. The song speaks to the lonely and dark feelings one experiences when a loved one is away. The repetition of the phrase "ain't no sunshine" emphasizes the deep despair felt in the absence of someone special. The use of contrasting images highlights the emptiness left behind and how it impacts one's daily life. The line "It's not warm when he's away" describes how even the weather is affected by the loved one's absence, signifying the depth of the relationship's impact. The song's sadness and melancholy are intensified through intense vocal delivery, with the repeated "I know" lines reminding the listener that this feeling is familiar.
The second half of the song seems to delve into a different topic, where we hear about a relationship that has run its course. The lyrics point to a lack of communication and understanding between both partners. The singer addresses the issues with the relationship, seeking to resolve it. However, the final lyrics of the song suggest that she has decided to leave the relationship, precisely because "ain't no sunshine when he's gone." The final line implies that being alone is better than being unhappy in a relationship that doesn't feel like home.
