Im in the Mood for Love
The Chimes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Simply because you're near me.
Funny, but when you're near me
I'm in the mood for love.
Heaven is in your eyes
Bright as the stars we're under
Oh! Is it any wonder
Why stop to think of whether
This little dream might fade?
We've put our hearts together
Now we are one, I'm not afraid!
If there's a cloud above
If it should rain we'll let it
But for tonight, forget it!
I'm in the mood for love
The lyrics to The Chimes' "I'm in the Mood for Love" are a vivid expression of love and passion. The first few lines of the verse make it very clear that the singer is in the mood for love because of the presence of their beloved. The theme of the song is that love makes everything better; the singer is happy and feels complete in the presence of the person they love. The second verse paints a romantic picture of heaven in the beloved's eyes, enthralling as they are under the night sky. This creates an atmosphere of intimacy and love, which further extends the metaphorical portrayal of love as a divine and ethereal entity.
The bridge of the song echoes the sentiment of the chorus by suggesting that the strength of the lovers' bond is enough to overcome any perceived obstacles or challenges. The final lines of the song end on a positive note, encouraging the listeners to live in the moment and forget the problems of the world outside, closing with the beautiful line "I'm in the mood for love."

The Chimes, along with The Duprees were the first groups to record previous hits from the 30s, 40s & 50s and made them huge hits again. "Once in a While in 60, this one in 61 and The Duprees with "You belong to me" followed in 62. Both groups made some great music.

the biggest upbeat song that charted for The Platters was sung by female lead Zola Taylor called HE"S MINE
MrRJDB1969
A huge amount of the success of The Platters is because of their manager, songwriter-music producer, Buck Ram. Who wrote, "Only You", "The Great Pretender", and other Platters hit records. It was his idea to use the 1940's grouping of three or four male voices with one female, i.e. The Pied Pipers, The Modernaires, Donna & The Don Juans, The Quintones, etc. etc. and it was also his idea to have the group focus most of their attention on ballads, instead of the typical, upbeat R & B material, being recorded by some of the other black groups of the time period. Yes, Tony Williams and The Platters were talented, but w/out Buck Ram, they probably would never had been known and their story would've been quite different.

+luis grant You are correct sir! How could I overlook songs like Harbor Lights, Enchanted, etc., etc., etc. So many great songs, especially in their early years with Tony Williams on lead. I humbly stand corrected.
