My biggest problem with leaks/teasers is how it ruins the surprised factor. I’ll take the Sonic.exe mod for example. When V2 was being worked on, it only had 3 teasers I know of. A teaser of the song “you can’t run”, Sanic.exe and his song “too fest”, and the mods release date. Now, there teasing almost everything that’s going to be in the V3 mod (new characters, new songs, redone sprites, etc). I’ll name another example, Mario madness. When the first version was being worked on, it had two teasers from what I know of. Those being gameplay for the songs “it’s a me” and “powerdown”. Now there almost doing the exact same thing as the Sonic.exe mod. Being surprised leads to a mod being more memorable. I wasn’t expecting Fleetway Super Sonic to be in the Sonic.exe mod and Racist Mario to be in the Mario madness mod because there was no tease for it. Those moments to me made the mod more enjoyable. In my eyes, what makes a mod popular/great is when little to nothing is shown until the complete mod is released.

It's like having people told they can move into an unfinished hotel and the same people complaining of air conditioning system issues or plumbing issues while the construction workers work even harder to finish the hotel. It's also disappointing to have a project you are excited for just have an unfinished and unpolished build be leaked. It takes that element of surprise and ruins it. Why can't people just forgive and forget. Ok, you had a fight and you left the team done and done, that's it.

Yeah. Leaking is not a great thing in this community. At this point, it's not even "LEAKING", It's either false things people make for attention, or straight up the real thing. Like, I've seen someone leaked the Hypno Lullaby V2 Mod. With MOST (if not ALL) of the new content and songs. I've also seen people leaked the needlemouse song and content in Sonic exe V3. The (Probably Last) Song and content in Wednesday Infidelity, Others songs from Mario madness, ect. This is just getting ridiculous, and really sad for the Devs who worked REAL DAMN hard on the mods.

Heya, so I've been around the community for a long bit, and I've seen many people going around leaking mods and wanted to give some of my two cents to hopefully get you more informed about this matter and how it's fucked.
1. Impostor V4. Without the leaker (and the other person trying to take credit for said leak, which is very awful and ridiculous), I doubt it would be as major an issue. It basically showed one of the main secret characters and some of the cool stuff coming into it which I feel would've been better off not leaked! Considering the other leaks and the person trying to claim responsibility, I'd say this particular leak is pretty much the major catalyst to most leaks for today, which really sucks as it's not a good title to bestow upon, you know?
2. Sonic.exe: From a personal interaction, (albeit not from the main person at hand), the IP grabber build was simply a joke within a friend group that got into the wrong hands. Even without that, I feel bad for the devs for multiple reasons, and the real leaks made it SO much worse.

I also want to add up that I was working on a mod as well and I've had experience with a leaker after some conflicts with them arised. I'm just surprised that the stuff I was working on didn't get leaked, which is a plus, but still very disheartening to see some cool surprises that was going to come being shown.

Could mention some other stuff that goes off the main point as well, but for brevity, I won't. I hope it can be stopped, but with the young kids wanting to seem "cool" and "edgy" (as well as personal pettiness), I doubt it will.

The impostor situation was as you said the biggest catalyst to start this leaking stuff we see today, and the reason why the early v4 build was leaking was very petty as the reason was again revenge for getting kicked out from the dev team for saying the n-word that was in a certain song's name. Plus Clowfoe has stated on Twitter that after that incident progress slowed down because no one trusted each other, at least that was the case until everyone got back again and progress once again sped up.

It is extremely upsetting to see these talented creators stressing over people who believe the first thing they see, ya'know? A buggy build is just the start, and I wish people would realize that these people don't have to do this. They aren't forced to, they have passion to push on and create wonderous things for us to enjoy. It sucks.. (I'm not sure if I defined this correctly, so sorry if I'm wrong about this.)

A "leak" is something like leaked by someone who is not in the dev team (or possibly someone rouge) and usually the dev team does not wish for it to be shown to the public yet.

A "teaser" is something actually shown by the dev team on what's to expect from the mod, but not showing off everything yet.

I will be sincere here, leaking is a low, dick move, that only dougebags from big af mod teams do (one of the reasons why fnf mod teams shouldn't be enormous), but the common reaction from the teams towards their work getting leaked it's not something I agree with.
A leak is totally meaningless in the grand scheme of things since the only thing it does is killing the surprise factor, which is highly overrated and unnecesary, so getting sad or demotivated because your work got exposed to the public before the release date is not the right answer, WORSE if you change or scrap content because of it, the only ones you are harming by doing this is your team, your fans, and yourself; it also doesn't help acting like this is such a massive and important deal, there you have the b3 team who accidentaly blocked the supposed april fools build instead of the leaked build (don't even know how the hell they can detect a supposed leaked build), damaging their fans instead of their supposed enemy.
What to do when something is leaked?, ignore it, or embrace it and share what you had planned, being more transparent with your audience, as a developer you should try to seek the best outcome of a situation, not cry over a dropped milk, this is also why I think underage people shouldn't be directing fnf mods due to the big weight that it has.

Now, the flipped out build, was being an old build really the answer to the critiques?, what it was most criticized was the songs, which sucked, and serbester never fixed them or if he tried it was like doing nothing, also the reason why it was leaked was probably due to serbester being an ass, which was also the reason flipped out got canned and sliced in two in the first place.

The week 8 leak is a good example of my point, see how the base game devs never whinned on twitter or removed stuff, they just continued with their work, the delay had nothing to do with the leak.

Wednesday's infidelity was leaked, showing almost everything in the mod.
The Box Funkin team was upset with this and threatened channels who posted videos on the build that they would take down the video. Many people also would post these videos and use the mod for YouTube subs. They would post a song from it if a certain amount of likes was on the video. I feel bad for Box Funkin as they didn't want this to happen.

For me the problem of leaking not only reserves to fnf also big AAA games like halo infinite literaly a month ago 343 gives the youtubers a early version of the campain and they only have permission on only show the first 3 level but a russian youtuber show literraly all campain with the ending that come with much problems with 343 not only their trust in the youtuber was destroyed also manny people shit on game before realase just because of a not complete build and the worst thing its still going literarly everything of the game is leaked the new weapon,maps even the new big mode causing fights in the comunity just because people can,t see how is goona work shiting everyone at 343 literaly every post about halo floods with rage and hate at 343 its sad. Thats why we need to stop leakes not only in fnf also in every game.

well shit luckily all i did was get one (sonic.exe with round-a-bout and fatality) no IP was shown but all it did was hype me up for the update (but I never downloaded another leaked file because one I want to experience the rest once it releases two I already took a risk with a sonic and tails mod which almost gave the person control over my computer so I decide to scan files and not download leaked versions)
