Carolina
The Conspirators Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Under city lights
You got mesmerized
You forgot where you are from
And who you are

Such a tragedy
You were young and free
Did you ever think
That you'd fall so far

Turn it on tonight
Carolina
Till the morning light
Carolina

I remember when
You were innocent
I remember what you were
My dirty rose

Never happy now
You're just selling out
Easy street is drenched in tears
You know it's never paved in gold

Turn it on tonight
Carolina
Till the morning light
Carolina

Just leave your dirty little secrets for a while
Just leave your dirty little secrets for a while
Let me make it alright

Turn it on tonight
Carolina
Till the morning light
Carolina

Turn it on tonight
Carolina

Till the morning light
Carolina

Overall Meaning

The Conspirators's song "Carolina" examines the impact of city life on a person's identity and sense of self. The opening lines describe how under the city lights, the singer becomes fascinated and mesmerized, leading them to forget where they come from and who they are. This feeling is likened to a tragedy, highlighting the potential dangers of urbanization and the ways in which it can disconnect people from their roots.

The chorus of the song offers a solution to this feeling of disconnection - the singer should "turn it on tonight, Carolina" and stay out until the morning. It's unclear exactly what "it" refers to, but it could be interpreted as letting loose and indulging in the city's offerings. Perhaps the song is suggesting that by embracing the city life, the singer can reconnect with their sense of identity and rediscover themselves.

The verses also suggest that the singer has changed over time. At one point, they were innocent and a "dirty rose," but now they're never happy and selling out. The promise of "easy street" has turned out to be a lie, leaving the singer with nothing but tears. The song seems to be cautioning against the dangers of city life while also acknowledging its allure.

Slash may not be the most frequent user of the talkbox but when he does use it he uses it in the best way! My favourite song of the whole album.

Matt Belmay is truly brilliant one of the best vocalists around at the moment but Myles kennedy is easy as incredible truly there should be more of this around at the moment. im sick of hearing stuff like flo rida and nicki minaj played on tv when two incredible voices such as these barely get played

Sick song, don't know why this didn't make the regular cut. Still I'm glad I bought the deluxe edition if only for this.

Slash might not be the best and most skilled talkbox user, but I think he uses it sounds best on him.

Great song. like the part 0:09 - 0:28 - great bass / talkbox / myles voice. awesome. 0:48 Pure chill again. Great with those rhythm guitar chords in left headphone. 1:31 - superb also but the reffrain doesnt fit into this, I think :/ a little pop . but still cool. last song is much more pop (15 - crazy life). but solo in it is fuckin great. so no disappointment .) btw I uploaded rest of the album ^
