New York
The Crash Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You got your start, you went to New York. Yeah. It's enormous
You went to see just where the wild wind blows
And it's more than you

You are in New York
This is heavy
No doubt about that
Dreams will happen

You cross your heart and hope you never die in this life
You want to feel how deep the new world breathes
And it's more than you

You are in New York
This is heavy
No doubt about that
This is heaven

And then one day, you rock the USA. Yeah! Wow!
And it's more than you

You are in New York
Streetlights glitter
brighter than stars
This is heavy
No doubt about that

This is heaven
You are in New York

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Crash’s song “New York” discuss a person’s journey to the big city and their experiences there. The opening lines “You got your start, you went to New York. Yeah. It's enormous” describe the excitement and anticipation of someone starting a new chapter in their life by moving to New York. The lyrics suggest that the person is seeking something beyond themselves, perhaps a sense of purpose, creativity or inspiration, as they went “to see just where the wild wind blows”. The line “And it’s more than you” implies that New York is overwhelming and beyond their expectations.

The next part of the song expresses the feeling of being in New York, and the weight of the experience: “You are in New York. This is heavy. No doubt about that. Dreams will happen.” The lyrics capture the sense of awe and wonder experienced when exploring the city. The line “You want to feel how deep the new world breathes” represents the desire to be a part of something larger and to connect with the rich culture and energy of the city.

The chorus repeats the phrase “You are in New York” and emphasizes the heavy and profound feeling of being there. The lyrics also suggest that being in New York is “heaven”, perhaps highlighting the sense of liberation and freedom that the city brings. The final verse describes the person’s success in the city, as they “rock the USA” and finds that it is “more than” they expected, possibly referencing the fulfillment of their dreams and aspirations.

The sad part is that innocent people died. But even sadder is that the driver never dies or get hurt.

This is devastating for the families and it could happen to any of us. The driver needs to be locked up for LIFE.

scruffi83

ban all automobiles from within city limits

Night Angel

He will be out on parole soon.

@Night Angel I sure hope not but unfortunately you are probably right. I know someone that drove the opposite direction on the highway, hit another vehicle, and the mother & daughter in the vehicle died. he got 5 1/2 years in jail. He survived and so did his baby daughter who was in the backseat. 5 years for killing someone...wow.

Who ever was driving, intentionally went out to cause serious injury/death that day. No way in this world can you drive through red light after red light at 80mph in such a busy area and not expect that to be the outcome. Murder charges all round. RIP to the innocent victims.
