What to Do
The Crickets Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What to do now that she doesn't want me
That's what haunts me, what to do

What to do to keep from feeling lonely
Want her only, what to do

The record hops all the happy times we had
The soda shop, the walks to school now make me sad, oh

What to do, I know my heartache's showing
Still not knowing, what to do

Overall Meaning

The Crickets's song What To Do was released in 1958 and became a hit single in the United States and the United Kingdom. The lyrics of the song revolve around the singer's broken heart and their struggle to move on from a failed romance. The opening lines, "What to do now that she doesn't want me, that's what haunts me, what to do" set the tone for the rest of the song, highlighting the singer's confusion and struggle to come to terms with their break-up.

As the song progresses, the singer seems to be caught in a cycle of loneliness and longing for their lost love. They are unable to find solace in the happy memories they shared, as the record hops, soda shop, and walks to school all serve as painful reminders of what once was. The chorus, "What to do, I know my heartache's showing, still not knowing, what to do" encapsulates the singer's feelings of uncertainty and helplessness.

Overall, the song showcases a powerful and relatable theme of heartbreak and the struggle to move on. Its emotive lyrics, catchy melody, and strong vocal delivery make it a classic piece of rock and roll history.

Thanks fr the tips! I have been using wasp spray to kill the bastards. I’ve gotten 7 in the passed week and I have no idea where they’re coming from!! Literally in the basement, my room on the first floor, and the kitchen on the first floor. Wish there was an easier better way to determine where they come from. I am definitely thinking about using your product soon. Thank you.

I sort of agree. The more you know of the crickets, the more you start to perceive their common crickmanity, and you develop a resistance to killing them. By not knowing them, you avoid the inhibition. Excellent, under-recognized point.

know your enemy, they are the Crickets.
Sun Tzu said Know the enemy and know yourself in a hundred battles you will never be in peril. When you are ignorant of the enemy but know yourself, your chances of winning or losing are equal. If ignorant both of your enemy and of yourself, you are certain in every battle to be in peril.

I am losing my cricket battle so this helped, I already spray but it seems they are also subterranean, glue traps are deployed.

@Anon Ymous Exactly, it's strange how we kill mosquitoes without thinking twice since they assaulted us first (bloodsucking without consent), but when it comes to cockroaches and crickets, who are usually physically harmless, we tend to shrink in fear.
