What Do You Want
The Dreaming Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I gave you anything you wanted
Anything to keep you satisfied
But if you take this life for granted,
I don't know how much longer we'll survive

What do you want from me?
Nothing is ever right
What do you want from me?
It's not even worth the fight
Nothing I do is good enough for you,
I'm sick of trying!
What do you want from me?

Cut out the parts of me you hated
And now I'm just an empty shell
But self-improvement's overrated
If every day I wake up in this Hell

What do you want from me?
Nothing is ever right
What do you want from me?
It's not even worth the fight
Nothing I do is good enough for you,
I'm sick of trying!
What do you want from me?

I'll take the blame and beg forgiveness
But, just tell me what the hell is wrong
Don't just stare at me in silence,
Desperate for a reason to hold on

What do you want from me?
Nothing is ever right
What do you want from me?
It's not even worth the fight
Nothing I do is good enough for you,
I'm sick of trying!
What do you want from me?

What do you want from me?
What do you want from me?
What do you want from me?

Nothing I do is good enough for you
I'm sick of trying

Overall Meaning

The Dreaming’s song “What Do You Want” is a thoughtful reflection on the struggles of a failing relationship. The first verse establishes that the persona is willing to do anything to keep their partner happy, but they fear that their efforts may be misguided or unappreciated. The second verse indicates that the persona has changed themselves to appease their partner, but this self-improvement may be futile, since every day feels like a living Hell. In the final verse, the persona is desperate for some sort of communication with their partner, but they are met with silence.

The chorus, “What do you want from me? Nothing is ever right… Nothing I do is good enough for you, I’m sick of trying!” represents the frustration that comes with a relationship that feels like it’s failing despite one’s best efforts. The repetition of the question, “What do you want from me?” emphasizes that the persona is struggling to understand what their partner wants and needs from them.

Overall, the song highlights the challenges of communication and self-acceptance in a relationship. It encourages listeners to reflect on their own experiences with failed relationships and consider how to improve communication with partners in the future.

What's weirder is when you entered a lucid dream, then woke up; did your usual morning routine... then realized you're still sleeping.
Happened to me once, just once.

Rudy and Sonia

Happens to me when I have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. I dream, knowing I'm dreaming, that I go to the bathroom. Only to wake up and still have to go.

The word that comes to my mind describing lucid dreaming is Spectacular. You feel Great, you see incredible colorful things, you control time and space, you can fly and be whatever you want.

I did it for about a year. I slept with a pen and notebook under my pillow. Would meet people I wanted to meet. Go to places I wanted to go. Had sexual experiences I wanted to experience. Wrote down a song and was so excited to see what I had written down. Only to wake up and realize the pen didn’t work during the dream, but did that very morning. I think things from other realms should stay there. So I stopped with the craziness. The mind is a wonderful thing.

Just today, I couldn't stop asking the people in my dream where they live as if I would go to this place lol. I was about to exit my lucid dream and I asked this guy, are you a real life human being or just a person in my dream? And he replied, "wish I was a real life human being."

AVINASH THAKUR
