Lucille
The Drifters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lucille, you won't do your daddy's will
Lucille, you won't do your daddy's will
You ran off and married, but I love you still

Lucille, please come back where you belong
Lucille, please come back where you belong
I've beggin' to ya, baby, please don't leave me alone
I woke up this mornin', Lucille was not in sight
I asked my friends about her but all their lips was tight
Lucille, please come back where you belong
I've been good to you baby, please don't leave me alone

Lucille, baby, satisfy my heart

Lucille, baby, satisfy my heart
I played love with you baby, and gave you such a wonderful start

I saw a thread on the SAO-YG archives where you mentioned Clyde McPhatter's "mind-boggling Lucille", and on the assumption that anything that boggles your mind has got to be worth a listen, I got myself over to YT and put in a search, and discovered that the track had boggled your mind to such an extent that you'd gone to the trouble of posting it on YT. And I'm glad you did. I'd never heard the track before - there are terrible gaps in my R&R listening - and I enjoyed Lucille so much that I decided I'd post it on SAO - FB, only to find that you'd beaten me to it, as has happened so many times before. 😊

From the first Drifters lineup. Ahmet fired them and hired new Drifters. I don't know what was the issue!

50's Doo wop was the best Doo wop time... 60's Doo wop was not that good. Just my personal view.
