The bandβs first release was a four song EP entitled SIX HOLLOW PERFECT THINGS. Included were the songs βSix Feet Under,β βHollow,β βPerfect (Dream)β and βCommon Things.β
The debut full length HOLLOW was released in June 2002 on the Morphenic Release imprint. Live ventures followed and included performances alongside scene favorites like The Mission (UK), The Cruxshadows, Voltaire, Gene Loves Jezebel, Stromkern and Assemblage 23. Many of the songs on HOLLOW still receive generous club and gothic radio play, while the title track was included on both the M&A MusicArt compilation βAngel Child VI: The Need for Silenceβ and the Cop International issued βDark Awakening: Volume 4.β
A three-song EP titled NEW DISEASE followed. The EP once again showcased The Drowning Seasonβs unique brand of guitar influenced gothic rock forged on their earlier releases. The band quickly returned to live activity. The Last Dance, Bella Morte, Ego Likeness and The Start were among the high profile acts with whom they would share the stage during this series of shows.
February 2009 saw the release of the long anticipated second full length album, CURSE. The Drowning Season opened for The Azoic at Dracula's Ball in Philadelphia (one of the largest dark music events in the United States), and the band traveled to Chicago to perform at a Wax Trax II Records showcase. Their dance floor favorite "Angel of the Odd" was included on the "WTII Sunday Showcases 4 Year Anniversary Sampler."
The Drowning Season is currently writing and recording songs for their next album, DRUM MACHINES AND AMPHETAMINES.
Over the years, gothic rock had many voices and as many faces. And while electronic dance music continues to flourish in the dark music scene, one band defies the status quo to produce dark original guitar-oriented music that harkens back to the days of pointy boots and clove cigarettes. We are The Drowning Season.

The Drowning Season Lyrics

Would it be enough for you?
Place heaven above beneath your feet
If mountains would move for your smile
And angels would sit on pins
Could anything open up your eyes?
Prayers to burn and dust to give
And covers my heart with scented lies
Ashes Ashes
We all fall down.
The Drowning Season's song Ashes is a profound piece of music that explores the depths of love and devotion. The first few lines of the lyrics invite us to reflect on the power of love and how much we are willing to give to the people we care about. The singer wonders if having the whole world to offer would be enough to satisfy the person they love. The metaphor of placing heaven beneath their feet and moving the mountains for their smile exemplifies the extent to which the singer is willing to go for the person they love. However, the question posed in the lyrics - "Could anything open up your eyes?" suggests that despite all the sacrifices, love may not always be enough to truly see the person you love.
In the subsequent verses, the lyrics take on a more spiritual tone. The singer alludes to prayers and manna - a biblical reference to the food that God provided to the Israelites while they wandered through the wilderness. Here, the allusion implies that love is like manna that "falls to the earth" and covers their heart with "scented lies". This could be interpreted as the idea that love can sometimes be illusory and deceptive.
The song ends on a poignant note with the repeated refrain "Ashes Ashes/ We all fall down", which is a reference to a popular nursery rhyme about the bubonic plague. The line could serve as a reminder that love, like life, can be unpredictable and precarious, and even the strongest bonds can be fragile and fleeting.
