The band's name derives from banjoist Leonard Podolak's earlier band Scruj MacDuhk (pronounced Scrugg MachDuke). MacDuhk was a warrior chieftain who fought with William Wallace, resisting English occupation of Scotland, during the reign of King Edward I. The entire name is a wordplay on the Disney character Scrooge McDuck created by Carl Barks.
In March of 2007 lead singer and budding songwriter Jessee Havey left the band to pursue other interests. Singer Sarah Dugas joined the band in July of 2007 and is on the road with The Duhks.
In late 2007, percussionist Scott Senior left the band to spend more time with his family, as his partner, Tara Beckta, was expecting their second child. Christian Dugas, Sarah's brother and a former bandmate of Leonard Podolak, has since joined The Duhks. Other members are fiddler Tania Elizabeth and guitarist Jordan McConnell.
In October 2007 The Duhks Sustainability Project http://www.greenduhks.com was launched to raise awareness about ways to live a more economically-viable and ecologically-sustainable lifestyle. In April 2008, The Duhks performed a post Earth Day benefit in Nederland, Colorado.
In spring 2016, the band announced that they would no longer be touring. They have not released any new music since 2014.

I See You
The Duhks Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In this sea of people, you're the shining star
They fade away, fade away
Hear the trumpets blaze, let the carnival begin
Take over the streets like the strongest gust of wind and
Celebrate, celebrate
Your laughter is the sweetest song
If I could only hear you sing all day… sing all day
If we should meet up, somewhere on a cloud
Let it rain beneath us, let the sun shine above
Let us float away… fade away
Not even time could make us fade away
Not even distance could lead our heart astray
Nothing, nothing, nothing could come between
Not even time could make us fade away
Not even distance could lead our heart astray
The Duhks's song "I See You" is a celebration of companionship and the resilience of relationships over time and space. The first verse compares the subject of the song to a shining star, surrounded by a sea of people who ultimately pale in comparison. The second verse encourages a wild and celebratory spirit, with trumpets and a carnival-like atmosphere. The chorus repeats the sentiment of the subject's luminance and strength, with their laughter being the sweetest song.
The bridge takes a slightly darker tone, suggesting the idea of the subjects meeting on a cloud and floating away to escape the troubles of the world. However, it's also clear that these two will never truly be separated, as neither time nor distance could diminish their connection. The repetition of "nothing could come between" emphasizes the invincibility of their bond.
Overall, "I See You" is a song about recognizing the importance of someone in your life and celebrating their presence, even when they may be physically far away. It's a reassuring message that true connections can withstand anything that life may throw at them.
