The Ex Lyrics

Hidegen fújnak a szelek,
Hidegen fújnak a szelek,
Hidegen fújnak a szelek,
azok nem jót jelentenek,
Hidegen fújnak a szelek,
azok nem jót jelentenek.

Cold Winds Are Blowing
Cold winds are blowing,
Cold winds are blowing,
Cold winds are blowing, and those are bad omens
Cold winds are blowing, and those are bad omens
Free life, free bird
Free life, free bird
Free life, free bird, oh how beautiful the one who goes free
Free life, free bird, oh how beautiful the one who goes free
I'd walk too, if I could
I'd walk too, if I could
I'd walk too, if I could, if I were free myself
I'd walk too, if I could, if I were free myself
I'd walk too, if I could
If I were free myself
But I am not free, locks are on my hands and feet
But I am not free, locks are on my hands and feet
Cold winds are blowing
Those are bad omens
Cold winds are blowing
Those are bad omens
The Ex's song "Hidegen fújnak a szelek" in English translation is "Cold Winds Are Blowing". The song reflects the experience of being trapped and unable to live life fully, conveyed through the metaphor of cold winds which serve as bad omens. The song draws attention to the concepts of freedom and choice, as the singer longs to be free like a bird so that they can go walking through life unimpeded. However, the imagery of locks on hands and feet indicates being restricted and unable to move freely. The song's lyrics are simple but effective, tapping into universal themes that resonate with listeners.
What adds to the beauty of "Hidegen fújnak a szelek" is its folksy sound. The lyrics are delivered in Hungarian and are backed by traditional folk instruments. In addition, the song features a catchy melody, with the repetition of specific lines adding to its memorable quality. The Ex, a Dutch band known for their experimental and eclectic style, manages to add texture and complexity to this Hungarian folk song while remaining true to its roots.

An Ex concert is something you remember for quite a long time. I think they're the best live band around these days, along with canadians NoMeansNo. I don't know where you're from but they're doing a minitour around europe at the end of the month for their 33th birthday and it sounds like it will be something huge. Unfortunately they're not coming near Italy so I won't be able to see them, but If you're from uk, france or holland I strongly suggest you to check out the dates on theex.nl :)

Thanks Zappuppa for posting this. I remember being blown away by this album when I was in campus radio in the early 1990s. I like the variations of this song that The Ex have done over the years, including one with brass, and a busker live version on a sidestreet in Paris that are available on Youtube. I think the Ex will be around for a while, since they constantly reinvent themselves and work with new musicians.

Hi Zappeo, I've never seen The Ex, but being from Canada, I was fortunate enough to see Nomeansno play in Detroit back in the 1980s and you're right, they are great musicians who put on energetic performances.
