Sacrifice
The Expendables Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Like the tide upon the sand
It washed away from me
Opportunities to where I stand
Sometimes I feel so empty handed
'Cause we're not the only ones
(We're not the only ones)
Ooh ooh ooh
It's such a sacrifice inside ya ya
Ooh ooh ooh
Somebody clear these stormy skies ya
Ooh ooh ooh
It's such a sacrifice inside ya ya
Ooh ooh ooh
Somebody clear these stormy skies
We'll never ever loose sight of our goals
Won't let go
And even though we're a little bit older
The truth is colder
Got to work, got to work, got to work
Got to work, got to work, got to work
Got to make that money
I hope it's something
'Cause we're not the only ones
Who can make this happen
Ooh ooh ooh
It's such a sacrifice inside ya ya
Ooh ooh ooh
Somebody clear these stormy skies ya
Ooh ooh ooh
It's such a sacrifice inside ya ya
Ooh ooh ooh
Somebody clear these stormy skies
The current is so strong
And I can't fight no more
And how I long to be
On that stable shore
If we could only step outside the shade
And in the games we play
The threat of uncertainty
(The threat of uncertainty)
Has carried me out to sea
Ooh ooh ooh
It's such a sacrifice inside ya ya
Ooh ooh ooh
Somebody clear these stormy skies ya
Ooh ooh ooh
It's such a sacrifice inside ya ya
Ooh ooh ooh
Somebody clear these stormy skies
The song Sacrifice by The Expendables talks about the struggles of life and the sacrifices one has to make to achieve success. The lyrics suggest that life can be tough and unpredictable, which can make it difficult to achieve personal goals. The repetition of the phrase "It's such a sacrifice inside ya ya, somebody clear these stormy skies" implies that the songwriter is struggling with self-doubt and seeks guidance from someone or something to overcome these feelings.
The lyrics suggest that the journey towards one's goals is not easy, and failure is a possibility. It is clear that the songwriter has gone through a tough time in life and wishes for things to be better. They acknowledge that they are not alone in their struggles, which is a significant message to anyone who might feel alone in their battles. The words, "Got to work, got to work, got to work, got to work, got to work, got to work, got to make that money, I hope it's something" portrays the need to work hard and make money to make a living, which can be a challenging process.
In summary, the song Sacrifice talks about the struggles of pursuing success and the sacrifices that come with it. It's a frank reminder that life can be difficult, and success is not guaranteed, urging listeners to keep fighting, no matter the storm they face.
