The Exploited Lyrics

A battered body screams abuse
A plastic bullet end his youth
A motherless son turns and pukes
Behind closed curtains
Terror stares
What are they doing prowling round our streets
Who are they looking for with bullets in their breech
Then turn off noweher there coppers everywhere
Behind closed curtains
Terror stares
God saved the queen with blanks from a gun
But who is our protector when provoced to run
We still don't know why they surround the streets
But now they've withdrawn in full retreat
The lyrics to The Exploited's song "God Saved the Queen" are a commentary on police brutality and the terror it can inflict on the community. The opening lines describe a chaotic scene, where a "battered body" is being abused by the police, resulting in the death of a young man. This brutality leads to a feeling of helplessness among the community, as they wonder why the police are patrolling their streets with "bullets in their breech."
The second verse further underscores the fear and paranoia caused by police violence, as people hide behind "closed curtains" in terror. The song raises the question of who is really protecting the community, as the police are portrayed as a threat rather than a source of safety. The final lines suggest that the situation remains unresolved, with the police withdrawing in "full retreat" and no explanation provided for their actions.
This song is a powerful statement on the abuse of power by those in authority and the fear it can cause in ordinary people. It highlights the need for accountability and transparency in policing and speaks to the frustration and anger felt by those who have been victimized by police brutality.

I love the Exploited music. I`ve listened this band for the first time when I was about 7 or 8 years old and I liked it imediatly and didn`t even understand what they were saying (I`m portuguese). I`m 34 years today and still get a kick hearing them.
