The band consists of Clark Baechle, Todd Fink (formerly known as Todd Baechle), and Joel Petersen. They signed to Saddle Creek Records and released a few singles, but were unable to establish widespread sales, though they were extremely popular in the Omaha-area. After adding Matt Bowen, The Faint released Media, which established them within a small, national community of fans. While touring, Bowen left and was replaced by Jacob Thiele who helped move the next album, Blank-Wave Arcade, towards a more dance and electronica influenced sound. The album was an underground hit. Partway through the creation of the morose Danse Macabre, The Faint added Dapose, a death metal guitarist formerly of LEAD. Danse Macabre was also a critical and commercial success and has helped to establish a wider fanbase for the band. Their 4th album, released in 2004, is called Wet from Birth.
In 2002 bassist Joel Petersen released the first album from his solo project, Broken Spindles, and he has since released two subsequent albums and had a U.S. tour. Guitarist Dapose also has a side-project, Vverevvolf Grehv, releasing his first album in 2008.
On December 12th, 2005, The Faint announced that they have moved out of The Orifice (a rented out warehouse they used to record Wet from Birth) and into ENAMEL, a 100-year-old building where they recorded the tracks for their next album, Fasciinatiion.

Help In The Head
The Faint Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Necktie?
High ideals but the tongue's never listening
And the message is shit but the world is ice queen
I said play the game, I confess
I just met you, help in the head
You don't know what I think I said
I just met you, I need help
Christmas isn't just for the new born
Ice caged delicates, tales of the bible
Sun and?
While we're left with the miracle, plays with the hopeful
I said play the game, I confess
I just met you, help in the head
You don't know what I think I said
I just met you, I need help in the head
I just met you, I need help in the head
I just met you, I need help
God speed, it dawns, we spray paint the jug
If judgment day comes we'll hide behind the sun
God speed, it dawns, we spray paint the jug
If judgment day comes we'll hide behind the sun
God speed, it dawns, we spray paint the jug
If judgment day comes we'll hide behind the sun
The lyrics to The Faint's "Help In The Head" seem to delve into themes of disillusionment and confusion in the face of societal and personal expectations. The opening lines suggest the frustration of a young person who has fought hard, but is still held back by unclear ideas of what is expected of them. The references to a necktie and high ideals that go unheeded imply a sense of being held back by arbitrary rules and norms, while the "message is shit" and the world is cold and indifferent.
The chorus seems to be a cry for help and understanding, with the repeated refrain of "I just met you, help in the head / You don't know what I think I said / I just met you, I need help in the head." It's possible that this is addressed to someone who the singer has just met, but who they feel a connection with and a hope for understanding from. The lines about "Christmas isn't just for the new born / Ice caged delicates, tales of the bible / Sun and?" seem to further explore the sense of confusion and disillusionment, with traditional narratives and symbols failing to provide comfort or meaning.
The final lines are perhaps the most cryptic, with a repeated chorus of "God speed, it dawns, we spray paint the jug / If judgment day comes we'll hide behind the sun." This could be read as a cynical commentary on the idea of divine judgment and the possibility of redemption, with the singer suggesting that they will take their chances with their own creativity and the power of the sun rather than relying on a higher power. Alternatively, it could be seen as a metaphor for the human capacity to create beauty and meaning in the face of uncertainty and fear.
