The band consists of Clark Baechle, Todd Fink (formerly known as Todd Baechle), and Joel Petersen. They signed to Saddle Creek Records and released a few singles, but were unable to establish widespread sales, though they were extremely popular in the Omaha-area. After adding Matt Bowen, The Faint released Media, which established them within a small, national community of fans. While touring, Bowen left and was replaced by Jacob Thiele who helped move the next album, Blank-Wave Arcade, towards a more dance and electronica influenced sound. The album was an underground hit. Partway through the creation of the morose Danse Macabre, The Faint added Dapose, a death metal guitarist formerly of LEAD. Danse Macabre was also a critical and commercial success and has helped to establish a wider fanbase for the band. Their 4th album, released in 2004, is called Wet from Birth.
In 2002 bassist Joel Petersen released the first album from his solo project, Broken Spindles, and he has since released two subsequent albums and had a U.S. tour. Guitarist Dapose also has a side-project, Vverevvolf Grehv, releasing his first album in 2008.
On December 12th, 2005, The Faint announced that they have moved out of The Orifice (a rented out warehouse they used to record Wet from Birth) and into ENAMEL, a 100-year-old building where they recorded the tracks for their next album, Fasciinatiion.

The Geeks Were Right
The Faint Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I got a chainsaw motor that's filled with rain, proof
When it sings like bach with eyes all bulging
When the pink sun drops the eyelids fold
While I'm in deep REM sleep or twilight zones
I take a freight elevator and press fast forward
I get to grind these teeth and beat through time
If I could bring things back they'd be that WILD
When I saw the future the Geeks were right
Egghead boys with thin white legs
They got modified features with software brains
But that's what the girls like, the geeks were right
When I saw the future the Geeks were right
Predator skills, chemical wars, plastic islands at sea
Watch what the humans ruin with machines
Eyeballs float in wet green grass
I'm in a chainsaw choir and dreams
That bend that let me cut through time and stretch out bach
I make the dry eyes roll and wet eyes cross
While I'm in deep REM sleep or twilight zones
I take the freight elevator and press fast forward
So I can grind these teeth and beat through time
If I could bring things back they'd be that wild
When I saw the future the Geeks were right
The Faint's song "The Geeks Were Right" has a very mysterious and intriguing tone, and the lyrics are no exception. The opening line "eyeballs float in wet green grass" immediately sets a surreal and dreamlike mood. However, the next line "I got a chainsaw motor that's filled with rain" instantly contrasts this dreamy idea with something violent and mechanical. This line could represent how technology sometimes dominates and encroaches on nature in a destructive manner.
The song then goes on to reference "modified features with software brains," which could be interpreted as a metaphor for how much more dependent humanity has become on technology as it progresses. The line "that's what the girls like, the geeks were right" suggests a societal shift where traits once deemed undesirable in men (such as being a geek) are becoming more attractive, possibly due to the rise in importance of intellect in a technology-driven world.
The final verse, starting with "predator skills, chemical wars" paints a bleak picture of a possible future where humans continue to harm the planet with machines and technology. Overall, the song seems to comment on the double-edged sword that is technology; it can be both awe-inspiring and destructive. The geeks, who are often the ones creating the technological advancements, were right about the impact it would have on society.
