1. One of the most important vocal/instrumental groups of the Jovem Guarda, the Fevers, along with its solo discography, accompanied in recordings stars of the movement like Roberto Carlos, Erasmo Carlos, Wilson Simonal, Jorge Ben, and Trio Esperança. Their biggest hits were "De Que Vale Tanto Amor," "Sinto Mas Não Sei Dizer," "Pra Cima, Pra Baixo," and "Guerra dos Sexos" (which became the opening theme of a soap opera in 1983).
2. The Fevers are an American power-pop band from California. They have two LPs released on German label Alien Snatch records.
Drawing influence from 70’s power pop groups such as the Modernettes, Sire records era Flamin’ Groovies, as well as 60’s bubblegum acts like the Ohio Express and Joey Levin and garage proto-punks the Equals, Beau Brummels and the Small Faces (all of whom the band covered), the Fevers were always either decades too late or a decade ahead of their time (or maybe both).
Originally formed in San Jose, California by singer/ bassist Gavin May and guitarist Brian Hermosillo in the mid-90’s during the original “Budget Rock” boom, the band released a 7” e.p. on Lipstick records with drummer Kathy Walker (los Retardos/ Pinkz) and played a few shows featuring Darin Raffaelli (Supercharger/ Donnas svengali/ Donny Denim) before quietly breaking up.
At some point in the late 90’s May and Hermosillo found themselves in Minneapolis recording with producer Travis Ramin on drums. The band would release “Gaan Daar Waar De Meisjes Zijn” (“Go Where the Girls Are”) and “Love Always Wins” for Germany’s Alien Snatch label as well as the “Don’t Tell Me It’s Wrong” b/w “He’s In Town” 45 for Get Hip records and the “Get On Again” b/w “Can’t Be True” 45 for Plastic Idol records.
Gavin stayed in San Jose and eventually started an even more 60’s influenced group called the Rantouls, while Brian stayed in Minn. fronting Skipper and the Sweet Faces as well as recording several solo demos. Travis of course continued producing and playing in several groups (most notably Nikki Corvette’s group). The band would tour Europe occasionally but fizzled.
Recently however, the original line up of Gavin, Brian and Kathy, found themselves all in the Bay Area and reunited for the eighth annual Budget Rock fest opening up for old friends the Brentwoods and the iconic Mummies, as well as backing Raffaelli’s short lived alter ego, Donny Denim. After the show spirits were high and there was buzz of more shows being a possibility.

De Que Vale Tanto Amor
The Fevers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Não encontro alguém que eu possa dar
De que vale tanto amor em mim
Se eu não tenho a quem amar
Já tentei sair da minha solidão
Para esquecer de quem me fez sofrer
Tudo eu fazia pra viver feliz
Dei a minha vida, dei o meu coração
Dei a minha vida, dei o meu coração
The Fevers' song, "De Que Vale Tanto Amor" speaks to the heart-wrenching experience of unrequited love. The lyricist laments the existence of so much love within them which they are unable to give to someone who would appreciate and reciprocate it. The song discusses the struggle to move on from a past lover who has caused great emotional pain, yet the singer cannot seem to let go and finds themselves deeply entrenched in their own misery. The lyrics indicate that the singer has tried to overcome their loneliness and heartache by attempting to forget about the one who caused them to suffer, even going so far as to give everything they had to show how much they cared. Despite their best efforts, the love they have remains unreturned, leading to questioning the purpose of such strong emotions when there is no one to share them with.
The final verse speaks of the singer's intention to move forward and find someone who will understand and reciprocate their love. The lyrics continue to reflect on the past relationship, with sentiments of the futility of putting everything on the line only to be left without even a goodbye. Ultimately, the song is a poignant reminder of the depth of human emotion and its ability to both bring great joy and cause suffering when not reciprocated.
