She is known for her ability to move between genres and musical styling, acting as both singer and poet in a way that was not deemed commercially viable until her arrival.
Natalie is co-founder of seven times Grammy nominated Floetry along with former band-mate Marsha Ambrosius. Floetry was an instant commercial success, spawning two studio albums, one live album, and selling over 800,000 records worldwide. As soon as fans became used to the duo - they broke up due to reasons never really divulged publicly.
The split with Floetry led to a marked change in both their sounds - but has led to rave reviews for their solo productions.
After the 2007 split of R&B duo Floetry, spoken word artist and whisper-voiced vocalist Natalie Stewart -- aka the Floacist -- made a handful of guest appearances on recordings by other musicians, including Brian Culbertson's XII. She signed as a solo artist to the Shanachie label, which released her debut album, Floetic Soul, in November 2010. Dominated by seductive ballads featuring Stewart’s trademark breathy whispers, she benefited from collaborations with Musiq Soulchild, Raheem DeVaughn, and Lalah Hathaway, along with production input from J.R. Hutson, Know-I, and Chris "Big Dog" Davis. It scraped the Billboard 200 with a debut at number 195 and reached the Top 20 of the R&B albums chart. Almost exactly two years later, she released Floetry Re:Birth -- produced by her husband, Nolan Weekes -- for the same label. It topped out at number 51, R&B. Supported once again by Davis, among others, Stewart returned with Rise of the Phoenix Mermaid in March 2014. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi

You used to be someone who had to be heard,
You used to be someone who had to be wanted,
You used to be someone who had to be flointed.
And now, she's gonna live with he
Her life is filled with peace.
If you never had to live, then you wouldn't hear me say,
If you never had to go, then you wouldn't have to know,
That I really don't need you, baby!
Tell me!
What are you looking for, out there?
Hey, what are you looking for?
These lessons they have to be learned,
That has to be burned,
These lessons have to be remembered,
And you see right now,
I am so at peace!
My life is filled with peace!
If you never had to live, then you wouldn't hear me say,
That I never wanna see you, baby!
If you never had to go, then you wouldn't have to know,
That I really don't need you, baby!
What are you looking for, out there?
Hey, what are you looking for?
Not running for the truth,
My heart is a little bruise that it's open,
Now it's broken.
The lessons are learned,
The study keeps on going as I keep on growing and growing.
Not wanting for the truth,
My heart is a little bruise that it's open,
Now it's broken.
The lessons are learned,
The study keeps on going as I keep on growing and growing.
If you never had to live, then you wouldn't hear me say,
That I never wanna see you, baby!
If you never had to go, then you wouldn't have to know,
That I really don't need you, baby!
Tell me!
What are you looking for?

Hey, what are you looking for?
Hey, what are you looking for?
If you never had to live, then you wouldn't hear me say,
That I never wanna see you, baby!
If you never had to go, then you wouldn't have to know,

The Floacist's "What R U Looking 4?" is a deeply introspective song about finding inner peace and coming to terms with past relationships. The verses describe the singer's realization that she used to be dependent on external validation to feel loved, heard, and wanted, but she has since found true happiness and contentment. The refrain "What are you looking for, out there?" is directed at an old flame, questioning their motives for seeking her out again. The song is a testament to the importance of self-reflection and self-love and encourages listeners to find their own inner peace instead of looking for validation from others.
The use of the refrain "What are you looking for, out there?" can be interpreted in different ways, making the song's meaning quite subjective. It could be seen as an admonition to the ex-lover for not recognizing the singer's worth at the time and now trying to get back with her out of convenience or boredom. Alternatively, it could be an introspective inquiry into the singer's own past behavior, questioning why she used to seek validation from another person and whether that was the right approach. The song highlights the importance of taking responsibility for one's own emotional well-being instead of relying on someone else to provide it.
