The group's self-titled, second album, released in 2009, debuted at number one on the Billboard charts and was certified gold in the United States, Australia, and Canada. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2010. While both albums were commercially successful, critical reception was mixed. The Fray was ranked No. 84 on Billboard's "Artists of the Decade" list. Their third album Scars & Stories, released in 2012, achieved moderate commercial success; debuting and peaking at number four on the Billboard 200. The album again received mixed reviews from critics. The band's fourth album, Helios, was released in February 2014. The band's compilation album, Through the Years: The Best of the Fray, was released in November 2016.
The Fray's use of the piano as the lead instrument in their music has led critics to compare the band with English piano-driven bands such as Coldplay and Keane. However, the band lists its influences as the Wallflowers, Counting Crows, Better Than Ezra, and U2.
Over My Head

I never knew that everything was fallin' through
That everyone I knew was waiting on a cue
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
But that's how it's gotta be
It's comin' down to nothin' more than apathy
I'd rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who's still standing when it clears
And everyone knows I'm in
Over my head, over my head
Eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind, she's on your mind
Let's rearrange
I wish you were a stranger, I could disengage
Just say that we agree and then never change
Soften a bit until we all just get along
But that's disregard
Find another friend, and you discard
As you lose the argument in a cable car
Hanging above as the canyon comes between
And everyone knows I'm in
Over my head, over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind, she's on your mind
Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head, over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind, she's on, on
And suddenly I become a part of your past
I'm becoming the part that don't last
I'm losing you, and it's effortless
Without a sound
We lose sight of the ground in the throw around
Never thought that you wanted to bring it down
I won't let it go down 'til we torch it ourselves
And everyone knows I'm in
Over my head, over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind, she's on your mind
Everyone knows
That she's on your mind
Everyone knows I'm in over my head
I'm in over my head
I'm over my
Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head, over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind, she's on your mind
The lyrics of The Fray's hit song "Over My Head" speak of the confusion, frustration and despair that come with being in a complicated relationship. The singer shares his realization that his relationship is falling apart, but no one else seems to notice. He wishes he could just disengage and walk away from the drama and misunderstandings. The singer acknowledges that he feels "in over his head" and that the other person in the relationship has moved on, but he is still hanging onto the hope that things will work out. The lines "And suddenly I become a part of your past, I'm becoming the part that don't last" express the heartbreak and grief that come with the end of a relationship.
The chorus of the song is particularly catchy and memorable, with the repeated line "Everyone knows I'm in over my head" conveying the singer's feelings of being overwhelmed and out of control. The reference to the "eight seconds left in overtime" creates a sense of urgency and anxiety, as if time is running out for the relationship to be salvaged. The song's bridge is particularly poignant, with its depiction of two people losing sight of each other as they fight and argue, ultimately leading to the end of their connection.
Overall, "Over My Head" is a powerful and emotive song that portrays the pain and confusion of a deteriorating relationship. Through its raw lyrics and soaring melody, the song captures the struggle of coming to terms with the end of a romance and the heady mixture of emotions that come with it.

I never knew
I was oblivious to what was happening around me
I never knew that everything was fallin' through

That everyone I knew was waiting on a cue
Everyone around me was waiting for a sign to leave
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
They were all running away instead of telling me the truth
But that's how it's gotta be
The reality of the situation is such
It's comin' down to nothin' more than apathy
No one really cares anymore
I'd rather run the other way than stay and see
I would rather avoid facing the truth
The smoke and who's still standing when it clears
I want to avoid the aftermath of the conflict
And everyone knows I'm in
Everyone around me is aware
Over my head, over my head
I am in a situation that is beyond my capabilities

I'm becoming the part that don't last
I am slowly fading away

I am losing you without putting in any effort to keep you
Without a sound
Quietly
We lose sight of the ground in the throw around
We are so caught up in the argument that we lose sight of what's important
Never thought that you wanted to bring it down
I never thought that you wanted to end our relationship
I won't let it go down 'til we torch it ourselves
I won't let our relationship end until we intentionally destroy it

Everyone knows I'm in over my head
Everyone knows that I am unable to handle the situation
I'm in over my head

I really LOVE the way he sings and I LOVE his vioce and the way he plays the piano. It's unique like Alejandro's piano playing (from Boyce Avenue).
