My Body
The Giant Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The train is riding
Down to the station where you lived
When we were school kids
Hey!
The rails are caught now
And I am falling down
Round this town of steam
My body tells me no!
But I won't quit
'Cuz I want more, 'cuz I want more
My body tells me no!
But I won't quit
'Cuz I want more, 'cuz I want more
Stop
The train is riding
Down to the station where I lived
When I was a cool kid
Hey!
Is it my fault that
The fallen embers burn
Down in a spiral
Round your crown of thieves
My body tells me no!
But I won't quit
'Cuz I want more, 'cuz I want more
My body tells me no!
But I won't quit
'Cuz I want more, 'cuz I want more
And it rides out of town
Oh,
It's my road
It's my road
It's my road
It's my road
It's my road
It's my road
And it's my war, it's my war,
It's my war, it's my war
His eyes are open
His eyes are open
Hey, hey, hey
My body tells me no!
But I won't quit
'Cuz I want more, 'cuz I want more
My body tells me no!
But I won't quit
'Cuz I want more, 'cuz I want more
It rides out of town
The Giant's song "My Body Young" is a reflective track on youth, the passage of time, and the struggles of adulthood. The opening lines set a nostalgic tone, with the singer recalling a train ride to the station of their childhood. However, there is a sense of unease, as if they are being pulled towards a place they may not want to go. The use of the word "fools" implies that we are all caught up in the spiral of time and memories, unable to escape.
As the song continues, the singer's body is telling them no, but they refuse to quit. This repetition emphasizes the internal conflict, with the desire for more conflicting with the limitations of the physical body. The line "is it my fault that the fallen embers burn down in a spiral round your crown of thieves" is particularly interesting, as it suggests that the issues the singer is facing are not entirely their own fault. There are external factors, such as people or society, that may be contributing to their struggles.
The final lines of the song, "it rides out of town," emphasize the passage of time and the inevitable journey we are all on. The repeated "it's my road" and "it's my war" can be interpreted as a call to take control of one's own life and to continue to fight for what we want, even when we feel like giving up.
