Meaning of Life
The Gift Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Would you tell me your name if I tell you mine?
Would you give me your life if I dare to try?
Would you find me again if I make you cry?
Would you marry me if I ask two times?

Would you give me your heart only for one night
Would we dance in the rain under the same light
Would we play different roles just to live two lives?
Would you smile again if I stop the time
Would you marry me if I ask you twice?
And if you still have doubts I can ask three times

Would our love be unique both of us unite
Would we sleep side by side, never say goodbye?

Overall Meaning

The Gift's song, "Meaning of Life," is a love ballad that asks whether two individuals could unite in a love that is truly unique. The lyrics are poetic, and they reveal the depths to which one person is willing to go to find love and live a life full of passion and purpose. The singer is asking the listener whether they would share their life with them through laughter, tears, and even marriage. The lyrics ask, "Would you give me your life if I dare to try?" and "Would you find me again if I make you cry?" - showing a vulnerability and open heartedness that is rare in modern love songs.

O verbo da oração iniciada por “if” é usado no passado e o da oração seguinte vem no Conditional (would + infinitivo sem “to”), iniciado por would. A ordem pode ser invertida sem prejuízo do sentido.
