In the Christmas Mood
The Glenn Miller Orchestra Lyrics

Who's the loving daddy with the beautiful eyes
What a pair o' shoes, I'd like to try 'em for size
I'll just tell him, "Baby, won't you swing it with me"
Hope he tells me maybe, what a wing it will be
So, I said politely "Darling may I intrude"
He said "Don't keep me waiting when I'm in the mood"

First I held him lightly and we started to dance
Then I held him tightly what a dreamy romance
And I said "Hey, baby, it's a quarter to three
There's a mess of moonlight, won't you share it with me"
"Well" he answered "Baby, don't you know that it's rude
To keep my two lips waiting when they're in the mood"

In the mood, that's what he told me
In the mood, and when he told me
In the mood, my heart was skipping
It didn't take me long to say "I'm in the mood now"

In the mood for all his kissing
In the mood his crazy loving
In the mood what I was missing
It didn't take me long to say "I'm in the mood now"

So, I said politely "Darling may I intrude"
He said "Don't keep me waiting when I'm in the mood"

"Well" he answered "Baby, don't you know that it's rude
To keep my two lips waiting when they're in the mood"

Who's the loving daddy with the beautiful eyes
What a pair o' shoes, I'd like to try 'em for size
I'll just tell him, "Baby, won't you swing it with me"
Hope he tells me maybe, what a wing it will be
So, I said politely "Darling may I intrude"
He said "Don't keep me waiting when I'm in the mood"

First I held him lightly and we started to dance
Then I held him tightly what a dreamy romance
And I said "Hey, baby, it's a quarter to three
It's a mess of moonlight, won't you share it with me"

"Well" he answered "Baby, don't you know that it's rude
To keep my two lips waiting when they're in the mood"

Overall Meaning

The Glenn Miller Orchestra's "In A Sentimental Mood" is a romantic and soothing song that describes the feeling of being in love through vivid and poetic lyrics. The song describes how the stars seem to shine brighter and how the loving attitude of the singer's beloved acts like a flame that illuminates the darkness. The lyrics become more dreamy, with words like "roses pearls seem to fall" and "paradise complete." The singer expresses that being with the person they love makes them feel lighter, and turns the night into something divine. The lyrics capture the feelings of elation and serenity associated with falling in love.

The song's melody is slow and mellow which enhances the dreamy nature of the lyrics. The melody starts with long and low notes that gradually build, with the help of soft percussion and brass instruments, to a smoother and fuller melody. The combination of the lyrics and melody creates a romantic and hypnotic experience.

This actually is a studio recording we did in 1988 with former musicians of different iterations of the Glenn Miller ghost bands. I was one of the producers & arrangers and still enjoy listening to it. Most of this was done in two or three takes. It's been used in a few major Christmas films and it actually went Platinum or Double Platinum.
