My Blue Heaven
The Glenn Miller Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Whippoorwills call, evenin' is nigh
Hurry to my Blue Heaven
Turn to the right, there's a little white light
Will lead you to my Blue Heaven
You'll see a smilin' face, a fireplace, a cozy room
Little nest that nestles where the roses bloom
Molly and me, and the baby makes three
We're happy in my, in my Blue Heaven
You're gonna see a smilin' face, fireplace, cozy room
And a little nest nestled where the roses bloom
Just Molly and me, and the baby is three
We're so happy in my Blue Heaven

We're happy in my Blue Heaven
We're happy in my Blue Heaven!

Overall Meaning

The Glenn Miller Orchestra's song "My Blue Heaven" evokes the image of a cozy home that one would want to escape to after a long and tiring day. As the whippoorwills call, indicating that evening is near, the singer invites the listener to join him in his blue heaven, which is a place of warmth, comfort, and happiness. The little white light on the right shows the way to this haven. The cozy room decorated with roses and a fireplace radiate warmth and hospitality. The singer then introduces us to his wife named Molly and their baby. They are a happy family living in their blue heaven. The song paints a picture of a blissful life that many would aspire to have.

The title of the song "My Blue Heaven" was a popular catchphrase in the 1920s, which is when the song was first written. However, with the interpretation of Glenn Miller’s orchestra, the piece attained success in many countries. Interestingly, the song's author, Walter Donaldson, was able to earn as much as $60,000 from selling the rights of "My Blue Heaven" to different movie producers. The song was so fashionable in the 30s and 40s that it was even sung in a few Hollywood movies. Interestingly, this song's sentimental music and cute lyrics are an excellent example of the old American pop standard genre that is still sought after today.

@Firebrand55

The definitive Blue Heaven Big Band version, with an unusually long solo from Miller and superb sax from Beneke....his sound was unique, as was his vocal!

@roberthoresovsky

Amazing!!!

@DianeandDick

Yes, young Edward James, that was Glenn himself. This is from one of the band's many radio broadcasts done before he enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. There are some REAL gems in that radio collection, with some very, very good Beneke solos.
 But, they're hard to find.

@JoshCampbell8395

Killer diller!

@edwardconway27

Is that Miller himself who did the trombone solo? Very rare!

@kenjimaurerfromdisneyland2001

This is the song from Disney’s the Adventures of Kenji Maurer

@HowieDewitt535

@acfinney this is in a room with microphones, no hot girls and one 10 inch disk spinning backwards.

@edwardconway27 I failed to acquire accurate information, but from what i remember this should be the master himself at work. Cheers, L.H
