Godless Graceless and Young
The Glorious Sons Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Tell me it ain't the most charming thing that you've ever seen
That cold breeze blowin' off the lake in June
Don't go missing the summer
Let them balcony girls put you under
The spell of the streets, and the city beneath
The sweating heavy moon
I don't have to tell you that you're gonna miss it when it's gone
It feels so damn good to be Godless, graceless, and young
You want some of what I've got
We can get more
I can make you feel better than before
I can make it feel good to be unsure
Don't you feel caught, don't you wonder what it's for?
It's good that it leaves you wanting more
It's good that it feels like love and war
I don't have to tell you that you're gonna miss it when it's gone
It feels so damn good to be Godless, graceless, and young
The streets are catchin' fire, and the city's just singin' along
It feels so damn good to be Godless, graceless, and young
Woo, woo, woo, woo
Take a walk down my street
Ain't it the dirtiest pretty thing that you've ever seen
'Round these parts, no-one wakes up from their dreams
And I don't have to tell you that you're gonna miss it when it's gone
It feels so damn good to be Godless, graceless, and young
The streets are catching fire and the city's just singin' along
It feels so damn good to be Godless, graceless, and young
Woo (c'mon down please)
Woo (come get yours too)
Woo
Woo (you got one for me, I've got one for you)
Woo (I said c'mon down baby)
Woo (c'mon get yours too)
Woo (hey)
Woo (damn, don't)
The Glorious Sons's song "Godless Graceless and Young" seems to describe the feeling of freedom and recklessness that comes with youth. The lyrics encourage the listener to enjoy life and live in the moment. The song paints a romantic picture of the city and its streets, and particularly of the summer, when the "balcony girls" and the heavy moon create a captivating atmosphere. The singer of the song boasts about his ability to provide pleasure and excitement, but at the same time, he acknowledges that the transience of these experiences is what makes them so precious.
The repetition of the phrase "Godless, graceless, and young" suggests the importance of these qualities to the song's message. Although they may seem negative, they are actually celebrated as a state of being free from the restrictions of religion and societal norms, and as a time of impulsive choices and new experiences. The image of the city "catching fire" implies a sense of passion and excitement that is shared by everyone who is young and carefree. In the end, the song recognizes the inevitability of aging and loss, but also emphasizes the importance of cherishing the present moment.

Stick on a dessert island that you can survive on for three years, and you can only listen to one artist/musician. That means all that artists music. What artist would you pick? I couldn't answer this question for a while, my husband said for him it would be glorious sons. And I see why he thinks that after listening to more of there songs.

Yea, they've certainly got a nice mix of motivational and feel good songs throughout their albums to keep you going while you're by yourself.
I like to listen to these guys during long drives for much the same reason. Great stuff.
