And everybody knows it
Caught up in a lie
Risking everything on a cheap
Way to pass the time
If you could go back
And fix it all
To stop the rest of us taking the fall
Don′t let it ever
Hold back another
It's hard to forgive when
This wound won′t recover
Should've walked away
But instead was led astray
By something inside you
That's labeled vulnerable
When really it′s just lack of self-control
Don′t let it ever
Hold back another
It's hard to forgive when
This wound won′t recover
You blame everything on
Feelings you don't know
When really you′re losing this fight
It's out of control
You won′t be alone
'Till you can have all that you wanted
Your perfect life will soon have started
Hold on
It won't be long
′Till you can gather up your things
And go back towards your dreams
Towards your dreams
One more mistake
I promise to break
Don′t let it ever
Hold back another
It's hard to forgive when
This wound won′t recover
You blame everything on
Feelings you don't know
When really you′re losing this fight
It's out of control
Out of control
(Blame everything on)
(Feelings you don′t know)
(When really you're losing this fight)
(It's out of control)
The Gospel Youth's song "Recover" is a song about facing the consequences of our actions and the struggle to find forgiveness after we mess up. The lyrics speak directly to someone who has made a big mistake and now has to face the reality of the situation. The song acknowledges the emotional stress of the situation by stating that the person involved is blaming everything on unknown feelings and is losing the fight, leading them to become out of control. It is also highlighted that they were vulnerable and lacked self-control, which led to the situation they are currently in. The chorus of the song emphasizes the need to move forward, not letting the mistake hold back anyone else, but it also acknowledges that it can be difficult to forgive and forget when the mistake creates such a deep wound.
The song essentially becomes a message of hope towards the end when it says that even though the person in question made a mistake, they can still have a perfect life as soon as they have learned from the mistake and moved on. "Hold on, it won't be long until you can gather up your things and go back towards your dreams." The lyrics suggest that the person involved should take responsibility for the mistake they made, learn from it, and use it as a stepping stone towards achieving their goals. Overall, "Recover" offers a message of hope and encouragement to anyone who has made a major mistake and is struggling to move forward.
