They have been around since 2006, and are constantly honing and improving their craft. Their line up, consisting of punk-folk acoustic guitar, vocals and drums (with a little piano thrown in for good measure) is certainly not your average indie-rock band and audiences are often taken by surprise at the intensity and quality of the sound created by such a minimal arrangement. The Haiku show that the acoustic guitar does not have to be a quiet instrument.
Each and every show is an energetic performance of incredibly personal songs, which somehow manage to speak to each individual member of the audience. Anyone who’s ever loved and lost; or been disillusioned with the state of the world; or been frustrated with the unfairness of life; yet enjoyed the feeling of hope for the future, will understand and appreciate what The Haiku have to offer.
Their work ethic is pleasantly different, and you'd be hard pressed to find a band around today who put more effort in. Regular interaction with fans is something the band take very seriously, and they are acutely aware that without people to listen, the band means nothing. Thankfully, people do want to listen, now moreso than ever.
The differences don't stop with the music either. The band are highly professional about how they manage themselves, and are more than happy to remain independent from the standard “record company” route, to which many bands aspire. Doing it their own way allows them more room to express themselves without compromising, and importantly they can stay close to their fanbase. Every single CD you can buy from their self maintained website, (www.thehaiku.co.uk) - or from one of their numerous gigs around the country, is hand made and often personalised.

For a while there's been something there
It may be wrong, but tonight I don't care
And the way you look I can't help but stare
We both know what we're here to do
So c'mon baby climb up here with me
but it's a sleazy act and you know you want it too
So just forget your worries
kick off your shoes
There's no shame in what we're about to do.
Something has gotta give
I don't care if it's me or you
I need you now and I'll get what I want
Because I know you'll be happy to oblige
It could be said we're just using each other
In fact that is probably true
This may seem sleazy to you,
but it's a sleazy act and you know you want it too
So just forget your worries
kick off your shoes
There's no shame in what we're about to do.
This may seem sleazy to you,
but it's a sleazy act and you know you want it too
So just forget your worries
kick off your shoes
There's no shame in what we're about to do.
The Haiku's song Sleazy Pop Song is a song about two people who are willing to engage in a sleazy act despite knowing that it is wrong. The first verse describes the burning desire between the two individuals which has existed for a while. Although the act may seem sleazy to some, tonight they do not care about morals as they cannot resist their attraction to each other. The second verse reveals that both parties know what they are here to do and they agree to engage in the sleazy act.
The third verse acknowledges that something needs to give, and the singer is willing to do whatever it takes to get what they want. They understand that they may be using each other, but they are both willing participants. The chorus repeats the idea that the act may be sleazy but both parties want it, and there is no shame in what they are about to do. The song uses bold language and direct imagery to convey the primal desire between two consenting adults, which may be considered controversial by some.
