They have been around since 2006, and are constantly honing and improving their craft. Their line up, consisting of punk-folk acoustic guitar, vocals and drums (with a little piano thrown in for good measure) is certainly not your average indie-rock band and audiences are often taken by surprise at the intensity and quality of the sound created by such a minimal arrangement. The Haiku show that the acoustic guitar does not have to be a quiet instrument.
Each and every show is an energetic performance of incredibly personal songs, which somehow manage to speak to each individual member of the audience. Anyone who’s ever loved and lost; or been disillusioned with the state of the world; or been frustrated with the unfairness of life; yet enjoyed the feeling of hope for the future, will understand and appreciate what The Haiku have to offer.
Their work ethic is pleasantly different, and you'd be hard pressed to find a band around today who put more effort in. Regular interaction with fans is something the band take very seriously, and they are acutely aware that without people to listen, the band means nothing. Thankfully, people do want to listen, now moreso than ever.
The differences don't stop with the music either. The band are highly professional about how they manage themselves, and are more than happy to remain independent from the standard “record company” route, to which many bands aspire. Doing it their own way allows them more room to express themselves without compromising, and importantly they can stay close to their fanbase. Every single CD you can buy from their self maintained website, (www.thehaiku.co.uk) - or from one of their numerous gigs around the country, is hand made and often personalised.

When the asshole rules the world
And the nice guy doesn't bother
because he knows he'll only finish last
Look at the world today
It's not a nice place to play
No one seems to have control
And bombings everywhere
And no one seems to give a damn
You know you're in a state
When the asshole rules the world
And the nice guy doesn't bother
because he knows he'll only finish last
The asshole rules the world
And the nice guy doesn't bother
because he knows he'll only finish last
Like children in a row
They'll fight and argue so
And that's the way the system goes
And neither side can see
Though it's clear to you and me
That no one seems to have control
You know you're in a state
When the asshole rules the world
And the nice guy doesn't bother
because he knows he'll only finish last
The asshole rules the world
And the nice guy doesn't bother
because he knows he'll only finish last
Time and time again
The same things repeating themselves
Time and time again
The same things repeating themselves
Time and time again
The same things repeating themselves
Time and time again
The same things repeating themselves
And it's always been that way
The lyrics of "The News Is: The World Sucks" by The Haiku speaks about the current state of the world where the "asshole" seems to be in control while the "nice guy" finishes last. The song highlights the lack of control and the prevalence of violence and war, showing that the system seems to be flawed. It mentions how the world feels like a playground that isn't a nice place to be, with no one caring about what is happening around them. The lyrics point out that people continue to fight and argue, with no resolution in sight, showing how history repeats itself. The song is a commentary on the world we live in today, showing that not much has changed throughout the years, and perhaps some things will never change.

@ariellizzy910 Thanks. This song is actually about trying to motivate people to change the world and not just accept it, so it's great to know it's had that effect!

Thanks for your support! I disagree about Jesus, but there we go. Jesus only ever preached peace, it's the millions of religious leaders ever since that have caused most of the problems, along with the lust for power and money.

I never said religion isn't one of the problems, I said Jesus isn't! in fact, I said "it's the millions of religious leaders ever since that have caused most of the problems, along with the lust for power and money."
