The Hurricane
The Heart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everybody bleeds
Everybody hurts
Taking what the need
But there never is enough
Tell me how you feel
But get your story straight
Cause I know all the ways a lie
Can bend before it breaks
You can't hide
I'll never learn
That the silence is the loudest sound
When the bridges burn
Will we make it out alive?
Our love is like the thunder and the rain
In this Hurricane
Never been a saint
And maybe I'm to blame
I dragged you down into my hell
And pushed you in the flames
The wind surrounds us both
There is no escape
The storm destroys our past
And carries it away
You can't hide
I'll never learn
That the silence is the loudest sound
When the bridges burn
Will we make it out alive?
Our love is like the thunder and the rain
In this Hurricane
As the walls come crashing down
And the lightning is so loud
I can hear the sirens now
Will we ever make it out?
You can't hide
I'll never learn
That the silence is the loudest sound
When the bridges burn
Will we make it out alive?

Our love is like the thunder and the rain
In this Hurricane

Overall Meaning

In "The Hurricane," The Heart's lyrics convey a sense of struggle and turmoil within a relationship. The opening lines, "Everybody bleeds, everybody hurts," suggest that both parties involved in the relationship experience pain and vulnerability. There is a recognition that each person is taking what they need from the relationship, but it is never enough to satisfy their desires.

The line, "Tell me how you feel, but get your story straight," indicates that there is a lack of honesty or trust between the two individuals. The singer is aware that lies can be manipulated and twisted to avoid the truth, hinting at a pattern of deception within the relationship. The following line, "You can't hide, I'll never learn," suggests that the singer is aware of the other person's attempts to conceal their true feelings or intentions, but is resigned to never fully understanding them.

The chorus of the song, "Our love is like the thunder and the rain in this hurricane," metaphorically describes the intensity and destructiveness of their relationship. The hurricane represents the storm of emotions and conflicts that they are caught in, unable to escape. The line "Never been a saint, and maybe I'm to blame" implies that there is a recognition of personal flaws and mistakes that have contributed to the tumultuous nature of the relationship. The singer admits to dragging their partner down and subjecting them to hardships.

The bridge of the song portrays a scene of chaos and impending disaster. The walls are crashing down, symbolizing the crumbling of their relationship, while the loud lightning and sirens indicate imminent danger. The question posed, "Will we ever make it out?" expresses uncertainty about whether they will be able to salvage the relationship or find a way to survive the storm. Ultimately, the repeated assertion that "Our love is like the thunder and the rain in this hurricane" underscores the theme of their relationship being marked by turmoil and instability.

This band is sooo underrated!!!

Horst S

I love her voice and the music. But "hey, let's change every band member except the singer" ain't cool imo.

rick trautman

It wasn't her choice to replace the band they didn't want to continue touring and such , they chose to leave themselves , besides it's her band and her music she's what makes Botb . she pretty much writes everything

Horst S

Well, I wasn't there. But "replacing everyone but one" leaves a bitter taste imo. I'm not THAT into symphonic metal. I love Delain. If they'd replace everyone except Charlotte Wessels Idk if I'd still visit their concerts.

Richard David Evans

@rick trautman So she writes the guitar parts?

rick trautman

@Richard David Evans yes for the most part, the other band members contribute and write some too on some songs but she writes most of it

Player??? I just bought a new Hyundai, no CD player. I work for a record label producing and selling CD's. I called my boos who lives Vegas, I live on the east coast, to tell him the irony of working for a rock CD label but don't have a CD player in my car and he told me he just bought a Chevy and it also doesn't have a CD player. My other buddy just bought a Kia, no CD player. They make you use your phone or a thumb drive. I went to Best Buy and another car stereo place and they both said $850 to put a CD player in. Now I guess I have to convert my CD's, 8,000 of them, to FLAC files I guess. I should have shopped for a CD player, not a car. On a side note, check out the band Follow The Cipher. If you like this band, you should love them.

Lexel

I also need to put it in my Playlist ;D
