The band claims to be from the village of Noid, England, near Bath. However, no such town exists in England. "Noid" has been suspected of being a pun on the "No ID, No Sale" campaign in pubs in the UK.
Forming in the fertile swamps of Englandās West Country in the mid-naughties, around the axis of Dan Taylor (guitarist and songwriter) and Kelvin Swaby (vocalist and songwriter,) the Heavy immediately astounded. Jaw dropping, freshly minted riffs, swinging hip-hop drums, funk-ridden bass and Swabyās startling, Mayfield-esque vocals meant early singles āThat Kind of Manā and āColleenā blew minds and won hearts. The debut album they were taken from ā āGreat Vengeance and Furious Fireā ā became an instant connoisseursā classic.
It was their sophomore album, though, that saw them blasting into homes across the globe. āThe House that Dirt Builtā. It also yielded the mighty āHow You Like Me Now?ā The single was licensed for a major commercial in the 3rd Quarter of the Superbowl (the biggest ad slot in the world) and quite simply went stratospheric.
āIt became such a big tune, that people asked, āHow are you going to top that?ā.ā Swaby says.
The answer was 2012ās āThe Glorious Dead,ā the bandās third album. Even deeper, a touch darker, and with shades of Southern Gothic infesting the swampy rock nā soul of previous records, the album was another giant step forward, Frankensteining swampy voodoo and b-movie zombies with garage rock and Gospel-soaked soul.
Lead single āWhat Makes a Good Man?ā showed that The Heavy were able to write brilliant singles time after time, with synchs snowing in once again, and American radio coming on board. The band toured the world exhaustively, wowing audiences with their transcendental live performances.
āIt was over the top, in a good way,ā adds Heavy frontman Kelvin Swaby. āWe went pretty cinematic, setting out to score a film that hasnāt been written.ā
āItās good to have a bit of light and shade,ā Taylor adds.
Since then, The Heavy has gone on to achieve storming success in Japan, playing Fuji Rock, chalking up a #1 alternative album on iTunes Japan, scoring a major Pepsi synch and playing Japanās biggest breakfast TV show, āSukkiri.ā
Their music was used in the stunning Guiness Sapeurs ad, they played Glastonbury, sold out Shepherdās Bush Empire and re-recorded How You Like Me Now? with none other than 50 Cent, to launch ESPNās coverage of the NFL Draft Week.
To top it all, How You Like Me Now? reached Gold status in the United States ā a stunning achievement for an English, independent artist. How to top all that, you might ask? Well, thereās a new album on the way, and The Heavy just happen to have a habit of exceeding themselvesā¦

When you loved me so
I couldn't do wrong
Now you need to know
See I been a bad bad bad bad man
And I'm in deep ya
I found a brand new love for this man and I cant wait till ya see
I cant wait
How you like me now
How you like me now
How you like me now
How you like me now
How you like me now
How you like me now
How you like me now
How you like me now
Remember the time
When he took over
Ya I was a lie
That you cant give up
If I was to cheat on
Now would you see right through me
If I sang a sad sad sad sad song
Would ya give it to me
Would ya (say)
How ya like me now
How ya like me now
How ya like me now
How ya like me now
How ya like me now
How ya like me now
How ya like me now
How ya like me now
Does that make ya love me baby
Does that make ya want me baby
"Oh No! Not You Again!" by The Heavy explores the idea of a man who has done wrong in a past relationship and has now found a new love. The song begins by acknowledging the past love the man had, and how he couldn't do wrong in the eyes of his lover. However, he has now become a "bad bad bad bad man" and is in "deep" trouble.
The chorus of the song repeatedly asks the question, "How you like me now?". This can be seen as the man's attempt to prove himself to his former lover, showcasing his new love and change in behavior.
The second verse brings up the idea of the man previously lying and potentially cheating in the past relationship. He questions whether his former lover would be able to see through him if he were to do the same in his current relationship, and asks whether she would still give him the love and attention he desires.
Overall, the song explores themes of regret, redemption, and the desire to prove oneself to a former lover. The chorus serves as a representation of the man's attempts to gain approval and possibly reignite past love.
