Frequent releases during the mid-60s included many cover versions of popular songs, as well as a few group-penned hits and many songs written especially for them by professional songwriters.
The Hollies were formed in 1962 in Lancashire, England. By 1965,the group had been established as one of Britain's pre-eminent singles bands. You did it again
On my knees
Begging please
Don't you go
No don't you go
Sweet baby Jane
Against the wall
For the fall
Your kiss was sweet
That kiss was sweet
Sweet baby
Maybe
Sweet baby
Tomorrow
Sweet baby
Sweet baby
Sweet baby
Tomorrow...
The Hollies's song "The Baby" is a classic example of a love song from the 1960s. It talks about the feelings of a person who is in love with someone, and they hope that one day they will be together. The song starts with the singer saying "Maybe baby, I'll have you. Maybe baby, you'll be true. Maybe baby, I'll have you for me." This suggests that the singer is hoping that the person they love will eventually be with them.
However, in the second verse, the singer expresses their frustration that the person they love does not seem to care about their feelings. The line "It's funny honey, you don't care. You never listen to my prayer" suggests that the singer is having a tough time getting the attention of their love interest. Despite this, the singer remains hopeful that things will work out, as evidenced by the line "Maybe baby, I'll have you for me."
The chorus repeats the same sentiments, with the singer expressing their emotions towards the person they love - the joy they bring ("Well, you are the one that makes me glad") and the pain they cause ("And you are the one that makes me sad"). The song ends with the singer reiterating that they will be there for the person they love, "wait and see."
Overall, "The Baby" is a beautiful and emotional song that captures the essence of love in the 1960s. It speaks to the hopes and frustrations of people in love, and the catchy melody creates a mood that is both nostalgic and romantic.
