The Gloves single arrived early in 2007, heralding the release of the Horrors' full-length debut, Strange House, which arrived in the U.K. that March and in the U.S. in May. In 2008, Webb and Furse formed the analog synth project Spider & the Flies, and released the album Something Clockwork This Way Comes. For 2009's Primary Colours, the band worked with Cunningham and Portishead's Geoff Barrow as co-producers, opting for a very different sound that mixed shoegaze, post-punk, and goth; the album was released by XL that spring and earned several critical raves, including NME's Album of the Year. In between albums, Badwan teamed with Canadian opera singer Rachel Zeffira for the hazy pop project Cat's Eyes, which released its self-titled debut in early 2011. The Horrors self-produced their follow-up, 2011's Skying, which featured a lighter yet still atmospheric sound that drew comparisons to My Bloody Valentine and the Psychedelic Furs. In 2012, they released the remix companion album Higher and embarked on an extensive tour. In 2013, they began recording new material with producer Craig Silvey. Early the following year, the single "I See You" reflected the more expansive direction of their fourth album, Luminous, which arrived in May 2014. The Horrors began work on their next full-length with Paul Epworth at London's Church Studios in 2015, and forged a darker, rawer yet still danceable sound that borrowed from '80s post-punk, synth-pop, and '90s dance. The result was V, which arrived in September 2017.

What words can never be denied?
When does it start to turn straight into a shadow?
How has your life become a lie?
Questions unanswered
You walk into the storm
There′s point in waiting now, for the promise of a cure
Stuck in an echo of lie
There's only so far that the eye can see
And if you think twice would you still believe
This moment in time that will soon repeat
Until you can feel?
Quietly only try across so many lifetimes
Where is the message that you sent?
And you don′t need to leave, you only need a lifeline
It's the beginning of the end
Promises broken, and words make their return
So what are you waiting for when the cure is now a curse?
Stuck in an echo, an echo of lies
Stuck in an echo of lie
There's only so far that the eye can see
And if you think twice would you still believe
This moment in time that will soon repeat
Until you can feel?
Na-nana-na, we′ll get so far
Na-nana-na, give back to the stars
Na-nana-na, we′ll get so far
Na-nana-na
Get up, get up, get up, get up, get up and you'll see
Get up, get up, get up, get up, get up and you′ll see
Get up, get up, get up, get up, get up and you'll see
Get up, get up, get up, get up, get up and you′ll see
The lyrics to The Horrors's song "Press Enter to Exit" explore themes of self-discovery, questioning one's identity, and the consequences of living a life built on lies and broken promises. The opening lines ask, "What does it tell you when you change into a stranger? What words can never be denied?" These lines suggest a sense of confusion and unease in the face of personal transformation and the difficulty of hiding the truth.
The lyrics continue to delve into the idea of living a false existence, where one's life becomes a lie. This is reflected in the lines, "How has your life become a lie? Questions unanswered, you walk into the storm." The storm metaphor embodies the turmoil and uncertainty that arise when one's true self is obscured.
The chorus, "Stuck in an echo, an echo of lies," further emphasizes the repetition and stagnation of a life built on falsehoods. It conveys a sense of being trapped in a cycle, unable to break free. The lyrics also touch upon the concept of time and its cyclical nature, with lines like "This moment in time that will soon repeat, until you can feel?"
The song addresses the longing for connection and redemption with lines such as "And you don't need to leave, you only need a lifeline, it's the beginning of the end." This suggests that finding a way out of the cycle requires reaching out for help and support, rather than isolating oneself.
Overall, "Press Enter to Exit" reflects the struggle of grappling with one's own identity, the consequences of leading a deceitful life, and the desire for personal transformation and escape from a seemingly endless cycle.
