Human
The Human League(ÈËÀàÁªÃ˺ϳªÍÅ) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Wipe your tears
Never like to see you cry
Won't you please forgive me?
I wouldn't ever try to hurt you
I just needed someone to hold me
To fill the void while you were gone
I'm only human of flesh and blood I'm made
Human, born to make mistakes
So many nights I longed to hold you
So many times I looked and saw your face
Nothing could change the way I feel
No one else could ever take your place
I'm only human of flesh and blood I'm made
Human, born to make mistakes (I am just a man, human)
Please forgive me
The tears I cry aren't tears of pain
They're only to hide my guilt and shame
I forgive you, now I ask the same of you
While we were apart I was human too
I'm only human of flesh and blood I'm made (I am just a man)
Human, born to make mistakes
The lyrics of The Human League's song "Human" touch upon the theme of forgiveness and the inevitability of human error. The singer is asking for their partner's forgiveness after acknowledging that they have made mistakes in their relationship. They are expressing regret for hurting their partner and seeking reconciliation to mend their relationship. The chorus emphasizes the message that the singer is just a human, flesh and blood, born to make mistakes like anyone else.
The lyrics highlight the vulnerability and imperfection of humanity, implicitly suggesting that we should strive to be more empathetic and understanding of each other's shortcomings. The lines "The tears I cry aren't tears of pain/They're only to hide my guilt and shame" reveal the singer's admission of guilt and how they are struggling to deal with their mistakes. Nevertheless, both the singer and their partner are human, and making mistakes is part of the human experience. The song's message is that forgiveness and understanding are crucial for any relationship to work, and it takes two people to make it happen.

This is simply a masterpiece on every level, the quality of Phil Oakey’s vocals, combined with the production of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who were the masters of their craft at that time. It’s a true testament of schmaltzy pop soul ballad.
