What About You

I don't think you know what you've been doing to me
California never cared for ya
I'm the one that's gonna have to pick you up at the God damn airport
Why would you ever leave when you can't even stand on your own two feet?
You'll come back the same way you left
Crawling on your knees
I don't think you know what you've been doing to me
You called me up to insult me
Called me a sinner and slut
Just because I'm living my life in a way that you don't want
Well I'm sorry about your church group
And everything you're taught
With all the family you're losing you're just ruining what you got
I don't think you know what you've been doing to me
I don't think you know what you've been doing to me
The way it seems to go has been screwing with me
I don't think you know what you've been doing to me
Ah!
I don't think you know what you've been doing to me
I don't think you know what you've been doing to me
The way it seems to go has been screwing with me
I don't think you know what you've been doing to me
The lyrics to The Jackets' song What About You are about a relationship that has gone sour. The singer is frustrated because they feel like they are the one who has been carrying the weight in the relationship, and that the other person doesn't understand how their actions have been affecting them. The opening line "The way it seems to go has been screwing with me" sets up the theme of the song, which is that things haven't been going well in this relationship and the singer is feeling the effects of that.
They are also angry that the other person has been insulting them for living their life in a way that doesn't align with the other person's beliefs. The line "Called me a sinner and slut just because I'm living my life in a way that you don't want" shows that the other person is judgmental and controlling. The singer is tired of being criticized and held to a standard that they don't agree with.
The final lines of the song, "I don't think you know what you've been doing to me," are repeated several times throughout the song, emphasizing the frustration and helplessness the singer feels in this relationship. In the end, they don't feel like the other person is aware of how their actions have been affecting them.
