The twins were born in Port Jervis, New York. Originally discovered by Clint Ballard, Jr., the writer of many hit records such as "Good Timin'" for Jimmy Jones, and "I'm Alive" for The Hollies, the sibling duo had a couple of early recording flops. However, in 1958, after searching through piles of writers' demo tapes, their management discovered the song called "When", written by Paul Evans and Jack Reardon. It topped the UK Singles Chart, got to Number 5 in their U.S. homeland, and sold over two million copies in the process. The track remained in the UK listings for eighteen weeks, five of which were at Number One. They had no further UK chart entries.
The Kalin's were the first set of twins to reach number one in the UK as a duo, followed years later by The Proclaimers. They were supported by Cliff Richard on their only UK tour. Their second single, "Forget Me Not," reached Number 12 in the US Billboard chart later in 1958. After two further low-ranking entries in 1959, they never reached the charts again.
Eventually, disillusioned with diminishing returns, the brothers returned to their day jobs, with each pursuing college degrees. They did not perform again until 1977, when a mutual friend booked them to appear at his new nightclub. Sometimes they performed with their younger sibling, Jack, and thus appeared as the Kalin Brothers.
They disappeared again as a performing act, until 1989. Then, their one-time support act, Cliff Richard, invited them to play at his Wembley Stadium 'The Event' concerts, as part of a sequence paying homage to the 1950s television pop show, Oh Boy!
Herbert Kalin was married and had four children, Suzan Lynn, Kelly Lee, Buddy Ladd, and Jonathan Ray.
Harold "Hal" Kalin died on August 24, 2005, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident, aged 71.
Herbert "Herbie" Kalin died July 21, 2006 from a heart attack, aged 72.

When
The Kalin Twins Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Well, well I know our love will always be
When, when you kiss, when you kiss me right
I, I don't want to ever say good night
I need you
I want you near me
I love you
When, when I say, when I say "Be mine"
If, if you will I know all will be fine
When will you be mine?
(Oh, baby)
(I need you)
(I want you near me)
(I love you)
(Yes, I do and I hope you hear me when)
When, when you smile, when you smile at me
Well, well I know our love will always be
When, when you kiss, when you kiss me right
I, I don't want to ever say good night
I need you
I want you near me
I love you
Yes, I do and I hope you hear me
When, when I say, when I say "Be mine"
If, if you will I know all will be fine
When will you be mine?
When will you be mine?
The Kalin Twins’ song "When" is a classic love song that expresses the intense feelings of love and desire that are experienced during the early stages of a romantic relationship. The lyrics speak to the importance of a partner’s smile and kiss in solidifying the love between two individuals. The repetition of the lines “I need you, I want you near me, I love you, Yes, I do and I hope you hear me” convey the depth of the singer’s attachment to the person they’re addressing. The central theme of the song is the singer’s desire for the other person to be theirs, to commit to them and cement their relationship.
The first verse of the song begins with a declaration of the singer’s love, followed by a statement of certainty that the love between them will always be strong. The second verse is focused on the importance of the kiss in their relationship, with the singer declaring that they don’t want to ever say goodnight. The bridge of the song is a plea for the other person to be theirs, and a reassurance that if they commit to the relationship, all will be fine. The repetition of the line “when will you be mine?” in the chorus adds to the sense of urgency and longing expressed throughout the song.
Overall, the lyrics of "When" express the intense emotions and desires experienced during the early stages of a romantic relationship, and the importance of commitment and love to keep that relationship strong.

Kalin Twins
Les Kalin Twins sont un duo américain composé des frères jumeaux Hal et Herbie Kalin (nés le 16 février 1934 à Port Jervis).
Biographie

My mom just passed away this weekend, and we found her love letters to my dad where she refers to this song as her favorite when she was 17 years old 🥰… we played it while she was laying in her hospice bed in her final days. I’m sure she’s dancing with dad in heaven once again! Thank you Kalin Twins for the fun music ❤️ (Rest in peace)

Sherrie, I do not know you, you do not know me, and I did not have the privilege to meet your mother. I just wished to let you know that your post has moved me a lot. I was 18 in 1959, and I can understand how much your dear mother liked this song.
