1. The Lads are a three piece Christian rock band formed in New Zealand in 1993. In early 2005 the band moved to America, and they are currently residing in Nashville, Tennessee. When discussing the move to America many of the previous members were unable to leave prior commitments in New Zealand, and major line-up changes resulted. The current line-up consists of Mark Millard (vocals), Tim Smith (guitars) and Steve King (drums). They have released a total of eight albums in their 15 year history, two of which won Gospel Album of the Year at the NZ Music Awards (Marvel and The Lads). They performed at every Parachute Music Festival from 1993-2005, earning them a cult status among many fans.
2. The Lads were a Bedford, MA indie group. The Lads played a tight skillful new wave oriented sound coupled with power pop influences. Their one and only album is soaked with bright, energetic and effectual melodies that stand up to any of the more popular acts from the early 80's. Out From The Shadows is highly recommended for the collector searching for a satisfying private press entry and desires a getaway from those more commercial offerings of the day.

Anticipating all my fears again
Been so long since I unlocked the door
Painful memories I cannot ignore
Where do I begin? Can I let you in?
Open up the door, step inside the hall
And welcome to the place that I call home
What's been going on inside for oh, so long
Standing in my living room you see
Deep into the very heart of me
Sacrifice my fear to have you close
This is where I know, I need you most
Where do I begin? It?s time to let you in
And now you're here and I know it?s all I needed
And I?d like you to stay, it?s a brand new day
The Lads's song "Open" is a heartfelt ballad that deals with the theme of vulnerability and opening up to someone you care about. The first verse describes the singer's fear and apprehension about letting someone into their life, particularly because they have painful memories they cannot ignore. The line "Anticipating all my fears again" suggests that the singer has been hurt before, and is afraid of being hurt again. The chorus calls for the person to "open up the door" and come inside, welcoming them to the singer's home - both literally and metaphorically.
The second verse sees the singer opening up more about their feelings, saying that "Standing in my living room you see / Deep into the very heart of me". They reveal that they need the person close to them, and it's time to let them in. The final lines of the song assure the listener that they are all the singer needed, and they invite them to stay and make a fresh start - "And now you're here and I know it’s all I needed / And I’d like you to stay, it’s a brand new day".
The key message of "Open" is that it's important to be vulnerable and honest with those we care about. The song encourages people to let others into their lives, risking potential hurt in order to experience love and connection. The ballad's lyrics are accompanied by gentle acoustic guitar, making it a poignant and emotional track.
