Broudie and Rogers formed the act as the "perfect pop project", and Lightning Seeds broke through in 1989 with the psychedelic synth pop hit, "Pure", which made the UK Top 20 and was a minor hit on US pop radio and a major success on US alternative radio. In the 1990s Lightning Seeds became one of the most popular and enterprising of the era. The 1995 album Jollification was a critical masterpiece, spawning several successful singles. In 1996, Lightning Seeds provided the music and production for the official England anthem for the Euro '96 football tournament. The lyrics were written and sung by comedians Frank Skinner and David Baddiel, and the song, "Three Lions", went straight into the charts at number one.
Since the release of 1999's Tilt the act has taken a back seat as Broudie concentrated on producing the works of others. However, in 2006, Broudie reformed the band with a selection of new members, releasing a Very Best Of album, and performing a number of tour dates. In 2009, the band released Four Winds, their first album in 10 years.

Take that wish away and make it come true
I know you could be wrong but maybe you're right
Take that wishaway and do what you like
A wishaway
You laugh and grab the words before they get loose
Put that wish away, in case it comes true
You'd blow away the smoke and hold me tight
A wishaway
Oh don't you lie, I can read you're mind
I know you never would but you feel as though
You wish you could be
A wishaway
Do you feel alive, will you be alright
I hope you do, I know you do
The Lightning Seeds's song Wishaway is a beautiful expression of longing and desire. The lyrics of the song revolve around a person's wishful thinking, as they imagine what it would be like if their love interests were different from what they are. The opening lines "See those eyes are brown I wish they were blue, Take that wish away and make it come true" provide a glimpse into the type of inner dialogue that the singer is having. They long for something that they cannot change, hence the phrase "Take that wish away and do what you like". The song then goes on to describe the feeling of love, and how it changes everything around us. The singer wishes for more time with their love interest, and imagines that if only they could stay the night, everything would be alright.
The song employs metaphorical imagery to describe the singer's thoughts and feelings. The phrase "You laugh and grab the words before they get loose, Put that wish away, in case it comes true" describes how the singer is afraid to admit their true feelings for fear of rejection. However, the song acknowledges that the singer can read their love interest's emotions, and that they might wish for something more with them. The words "I know you never would but you feel as though, You wish you could be" depict the inner turmoil of the love interest. They might have feelings for the singer too but cannot act on them.
