Shining
The Man Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When you wish upon a star
Your dreams will take you very far
But when you wish upon a dream
Life ain't always what it seems
What'd you see on a night so clear
In the sky so very dear

You're a shining star
No matter who you are
Shining bright to see
What you could truly be

Shining star come in to view
Shine its watchful light on you
Give you strength to carry on
Make your body big and strong
Born a man child of the sun
Saw your work had just begun

Found I had to stand alone
Bless it now I've got my own
So, if you find yourself in need
Why don't you listen to these words and heed
Be you giant or grain of sand
Words of wisdom are ?Yes I can?

You're a shining star
No matter who you are
Shining bright to see
What you could truly be

You're a shining star
No matter who you are

Shining bright to see
What you could truly be

This is simultaneously one of the scariest and funniest horror movie moments I've ever seen, you know why?

Back in the day, a censored cut of this movie would broadcast on late night TV, and they completely cut out the part where the bear guy emerges from the old dude's lap. So it cuts rapidly right from terrified Shelly Duvall at 0:19, directly to them both staring at the camera in that scary close-up zoom at 0:29. It was jarring, effective, and as a kid; I was shaken for weeks. I couldn't walk up my stairs at night. Whenever this movie was brought up between friends, I would lout and tout this scene as the absolute scariest to some mixed reactions: "...really? That scene?"

Eventually me and some friends sat down for a re-watch on some blu-ray special edition or something. This scene was coming up, and I said, "Get ready, scariest scene in the whole movie, right here."
You can imagine my surprise when I saw for the first time the uncut scene: The bear was full-on blowing the old man, my friends were silent...and I just sat there like "Uh...I don't remember this happening"

...and just like that, the terror this scene had wielded over me so long vanished in an instant. In my opinion, the cut version of that scene was WAAAY scarier...the bear fellatio just makes it seem like comic relief.

everybody is talking about how terrifying they were, but think about seeing a crazy chick with a knife poping out of nowhere while you're having an intimate moment

I think this is the scariest scene in the movie.  Up until this point, Jack really could have just been crazy, but Wendy seeing the ghosts confirms their existence.  The look of confusion and horror on her face is perfect.

Jackson

The existence of the ghosts are confirmed when they let jack out of the pantry

Eh I perfer to believe they were ghosts. That sexual abuse theory sounds stupid and far fetched to me. If it were true then that would really ruin the movie for me.
