The Merry Thoughts
"If you are to copy a band, either do it right or simply don't; well these guys did it to perfection. The Merry Thoughts [are] the ultimate the Sisters of Mercy clones, and one of the few bands out there that can truly be mistaken for the Sisters of Mercy. From the lead singer's voice who skillfully captures the Eldritch tonality, to the guitars, bass and drums, all carbon copies....well they even have the equivalent of Doktor Avalanche and they called their Drummachine: the Thoughtmachine!
... the quality of the songs is as good as the Sisters of Mercy songs...
Both of The Merry Thoughts' full length albums, Millenium Done I: Empire Songs and Psychocult are highly recommended. I can't think of a single flaw on either."

Will You
The Merry Thoughts Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I sip my tea and we're
Sitting here, playing so cool, thinking
"What will be, will be."
Well it's getting kind of late now
Oh I wonder if you'll stay now, stay now, stay now, stay now
Or will you just politely say "Goodnight"?
I move a little closer to you,
Not knowing quite what to do and I'm
Feeling all fingers and thumbs
I spill my tea
Oh silly me!
Well it's getting kind of late now,
I wonder if you'll stay now, stay now, stay now, stay now
Or will you just politely say "Goodnight"?
And then we touch,
Much too much,
This moment has been waiting for a long, long time
It makes me shiver
It makes me quiver
This moment I am so unsure
This moment I have waited for
Is it something you've been waiting for?
Waiting for too?
Take off your eyes,
Bare your soul,
Gather me to you,
And make me whole,
Tell me your secret,
Sing me the song,
Sing it to me in the silent tongue
Well it's getting kind of late now,
I wonder if you'll stay now, stay now, stay now, stay now
Or will you just politely say "Goodnight"?
The Merry Thoughts' song "Will You" is a romantic ballad about two people who are unsure of their feelings towards each other. The song opens with the two protagonists sitting together, drinking coffee and tea, respectively, and playing it "cool." They both realize that no matter what happens, "what will be, will be." However, as the night goes on and it starts to get late, the singer wonders whether the person he is spending time with will stay or just politely say goodnight. The second verse reveals that the singer starts to feel unsure of himself and becomes clumsy, spilling his tea. The chorus repeats with a sense of anticipation and anxiety.
The third verse is the climax of the song when the two touch each other, creating a moment that has been "waiting for a long, long time." The singer's emotions are heightened, and he becomes unsure of his feelings. He questions whether the person he's with has also been waiting for this moment or if he's alone in his emotions. The final verse is a plea to the person to be vulnerable, bare their soul, and sing the song of love in the "silent tongue" to the singer. The song ends with the same question, "will you stay now, or will you just politely say goodnight?"
Overall, "Will You" is a tender and romantic song that captures the uncertainty and anticipation of a new relationship. The lyrics are beautifully written, and the music is hauntingly beautiful.

Eternally sad that this brilliant band left the show business...
@aloha808
much better than the 1981 Hazel O'Connor original UK hit. It should be remixed, though... to make it a bit more upbeat or danceable
@DrMarcusKane
I love this as much as the original. They've put their own twist on it. Used to love this band, I know they did rip off the Sisters but what the hell. They were great live too, and very nice people. Met them after their Birmingham Mercat gig - in about 1993 I think.

DrMarcusKane you are absolutely right in everything
