Formed in 1985, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones started playing in Boston clubs in the mid-1980s. After a brief period of inactivity due to the schooling commitments of its members, they reformed and released their album Devil's Night Out on Taang! Records. The Bosstones toured relentlessly throughout the 1990s, playing hundreds of shows a year, releasing albums and spinning off the popular rock radio hit "Someday I Suppose". They were eventually signed to Mercury Records. The band appeared in the movie Clueless. In 1997, the success of their single "The Impression That I Get" and its follow up, "The Rascal King" earned them mainstream recognition. In 2000 they put out their critically acclaimed disk Pay Attention. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones released their last album on Side One Dummy Records. They officially went on hiatus in 2003, citing too much time on the road and desire to branch out and do different things. In 2007, the Bosstones announced that they were reforming. They played their 10th Hometown Throwdown in Boston and released a new album, Medium Rare, which consists of rare B-sides, and 3 new songs, including the single, "Don't Worry Desmond Dekker".
The band announced their split in early 2022.

Out of line and in my face
Brace yourself - I'm coming through
And before you know what's hit you
You'll have heard my point of view
Trash is trash
Have I got your attention?
There's more I've got to mention
You've got to let it go
I was a child, another time another place
Only a child would carry this so far
You're still in my face
I held it back, I was afraid
Didn't want to blow your cover
But I was on to your charade
Trash is trash
Have I got your attention?
There's more that you should know
There's more I've got to mention
You've got to let it go
Bronzing the garbage
There was a time I was impressed
Through all the garbage
It's still not you that I detest
I hate the way
You can't forget, I hate it so
Bronze what you want
But you've got to let it go
Have I got through?
Have I got through to you?
Gave it a shot - finally got to state my case
If you've heard nothing, please hear this
Don't get in my face
Trash is trash
Ahh... trash is trash
Bronzing the garbage
There was a time I was impressed
Through all the garbage
It's still not you that I detest
I hate the way
You can't forget, I hate it so
Bronze what you want
But you've got to let it go
Have I got your attention?
There's more that you should know
There's more I've got to mention
You've got to let it go
Have I got your attention?
There's more that you should know
There's more I've got to mention
You've got to let it go
The song "Bronzing The Garbage" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones is about confronting someone who is constantly in your face and trying to make a point. The opening lines "You're off base, Out of line and in my face, Brace yourself - I'm coming through" clearly sets the tone of the song. The lyrics go on to explain that the person being addressed needs to let go of their obsession with trash and stop holding onto things that don't matter. The chorus repeats this message, stating that "trash is trash" and urging the person to move on.
There is also a personal story being told in the lyrics. The singer reveals that they were once a child who carried something too far, but is now confronting the person who is a constant thorn in their side. The lines, "I held it back, I was afraid, Didn't want to blow your cover, But I was onto your charade" show that the singer has had enough and is going to speak his mind.
Overall, the song is about confronting someone who is constantly in your face, speaking your truth, and urging them to let go of things that don't matter. It's a reminder that sometimes we need to move on from certain things and not hold onto them forever.
