Formed in 1985, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones started playing in Boston clubs in the mid-1980s. After a brief period of inactivity due to the schooling commitments of its members, they reformed and released their album Devil's Night Out on Taang! Records. The Bosstones toured relentlessly throughout the 1990s, playing hundreds of shows a year, releasing albums and spinning off the popular rock radio hit "Someday I Suppose". They were eventually signed to Mercury Records. The band appeared in the movie Clueless. In 1997, the success of their single "The Impression That I Get" and its follow up, "The Rascal King" earned them mainstream recognition. In 2000 they put out their critically acclaimed disk Pay Attention. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones released their last album on Side One Dummy Records. They officially went on hiatus in 2003, citing too much time on the road and desire to branch out and do different things. In 2007, the Bosstones announced that they were reforming. They played their 10th Hometown Throwdown in Boston and released a new album, Medium Rare, which consists of rare B-sides, and 3 new songs, including the single, "Don't Worry Desmond Dekker".
The band announced their split in early 2022.

standing stiff on a cliff and I'm not gonna leap,
checked out the water but it's much too deep
no going back there's no turning around,
so I'll stay here and wait God I hope that I'm found
my [7x] thoughts were in knots but I couldn't get to sleep,
went up to the attic to see what to keep
threw out the useless and now it's bone-dry,
no way, no how, no what? what now?
the place is packed I needed that
the bottles cracked I'm glad for that
a good nights rest? forget about that
I feel alive in this dive so I'll drink to that
the place is packed I needed that
the bottles cracked I'm glad for that
a good nights rest? forget about that
I feel alive in this dive so I'll drink to that
the attic was empty and my eyes were shut,
I had to do soemthing but I didn't know what
the darkness was nice but it wasn't enough,
the clock wasn't stopping so I had to get tough
get tough, get up, get out, get tough!
the place is packed I needed that
the bottles cracked I'm glad for that
a good nights rest? forget about that
I feel alive in this dive so I'll drink to that
the place is packed I needed that
the bottles cracked I'm glad for that
a good nights rest? forget about that
I feel alive in this dive so I'll drink to that
got up and out and found out it was raining,
the car lived then died but I wasn't complaining
hell bent for action and it had to be out there,
I walked then I ran hoping something was somewhere
before too long it didn't take long,
this place came along and I ended up here
the place is packed I needed that the bottles cracked
I'm glad for that a good nights rest? forget about that
I feel alive in this dive so I'll drink to that
the place is packed I needed that the bottles cracked
I'm glad for that a good nights rest? forget about that
I feel alive in this dive so I'll drink to that
The lyrics to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones's song "I'll Drink to That" are about a person who is struggling with some sort of inner turmoil, as indicated by the lines, "standing stiff on a cliff and I'm not gonna leap, checked out the water but it's much too deep." The person is in a state of indecision and confusion, unable to sleep and unsure of what to do next. They go up to the attic to clear their thoughts and throw out the useless but still feel like something is missing. However, they find solace in a local bar or pub ("this dive"), where they feel alive and can forget about their problems for a while.
The song's verses convey a sense of helplessness and confusion, with the chorus providing a moment of relief and release from the singer's struggles. The repeated refrain of "the place is packed I needed that, the bottles cracked I'm glad for that, a good night's rest? forget about that, I feel alive in this dive so I'll drink to that" emphasizes the importance of finding solace and comfort in the midst of difficult times.
Overall, "I'll Drink to That" tells a story of someone trying to find their way out of a confusing and difficult situation, and ultimately finding solace in a place where they can momentarily forget their problems and feel alive.
