The band's original lineup consisted of Wayne Hussey (vocals, guitar), Craig Adams (bass), Simon Hinckler (guitar) and Mick Brown (drums). Hussey and Adams were formerly members of The Sisters of Mercy, Mick Brown was a former member of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and Hickler was a former member of Artery and Pulp. Wayne Hussey has been the only constant member of the band.
The backbone of the band's catalogue consists of seven main albums (Gods Own Medicine, Children, Carved in Sand, Masque, Neverland, Blue, Aura and God Is A Bullet) with several complementing albums, compilations and other miscellaneous releases also in existence.
The Mission attracted a faithful following band of fans, known a 'Eskimos'. Gigs typically had an energetic mosh pit (prior to the term being coined) sustained by a lot of Eskimos.
Other bandmembers:
Mark Gemini Thwaite (guitar, 1992-1996, 1999-2000, 2006-2008)

Richard Beesley (drums, 2002)

Cry Like a Baby
The Mission Lyrics

Everyone I know is a pimp or a whore
As ugly as sin and as sleazy as hell
Everyone I know has got trash to sell
From the mouth's of babes come the words of the wise
Please don't ask me to apologize
Load up your gun to play Russian roulette
I'll take another drag on your funny cigarette
Rally the troops, the battle lines are drawn
The darkest hour comes before dawn
Don't you talk to me of self respect
'cause all I hear is cause and effect
I've got no bridges left to burn
Got no place left to turn
I'm a shooting star ready to crash
Don't want your credit I'll just take your cash
And I'll cry like a baby
Crawl back under your stone hide your face in shame
Look to yourself 'cause I'm too easy to blame
The smell of burning martyr, stench of decay
I'll trample over you if you get in my way
And I'll cry like a baby
In "Cry Like a Baby", The Mission is expressing their exasperation and disgust with the society they live in. The song opens with the singer stating that they can't take it anymore because everyone they know is either a pimp or a whore. The people around them are ugly, sinful, and unsavory. The chorus of the song has the singer saying that they will cry like a baby instead of fighting the constant battle of life because they are tired of the filth and deception of the people around them. In the second verse, the singer gets more aggressive and seems to be rallying the troops to fight back against the darkest hour.
The lyrics of "Cry Like a Baby" are raw and honest, expressing the pain and frustration of living in a world where people prioritize their own self-interests over the common good. The song utilizes imagery of guns, smoke, and battle lines to convey the feeling of being in a war-like situation against an enemy that surrounds them on all sides. The chorus of the song, where the singer claims that they will cry like a baby, is a poignant moment in the song because it suggests that the only way to cope with the constant barrage of negativity around you is to let yourself feel something, even if that feeling is sadness.
