The band's original lineup consisted of Wayne Hussey (vocals, guitar), Craig Adams (bass), Simon Hinckler (guitar) and Mick Brown (drums). Hussey and Adams were formerly members of The Sisters of Mercy, Mick Brown was a former member of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and Hickler was a former member of Artery and Pulp. Sea Of Love
The Mission Lyrics

Slumber in lavender and take the primrose path to the eternal sea
The dragon's breath of shadow land
Resting on the waves and drifting across the sand
Maiden of Lorelei, the sweetness of your song
Calls my ship across the blue
Treasure rests upon your shore, the seagulls cry for sailors
Harbor lies in your embrace
And my ship sets sail for that resting place
A ship of dreams on the sea of love
And if wishes are stallions
Then kisses are galleons
And dreamers sail on the sea of love
And dreamers sail on the sea of love
On the sea of love
Angel of evermore, my Savior from the heavens above
With healing in your wings
The beauty of the melting snow the perfume of the mountain flower
Springtime brings
The ocean waves on desert shores
The coast the ship of dreams explore
Dreamers sail on the sea of love
Dreamers sail on the sea of love
Dreamers sail on the sea of love
Dreamers sail on the sea of love
On the sea of love
Love
Love
Love
On the sea of love
The Mission's "Sea Of Love" is a love song that uses the ocean as a metaphor for the power and depth of love. The lyrics are filled with imagery of mythical creatures and picturesque landscapes. The song opens with the "Mistress of Avalon" casting a spell and the mist drawing down on the singer. This sets the stage for a dreamlike journey across the sea of love. The "primrose path" that he takes leads him to the eternal sea. The dragon's breath of the shadowland follows him across the sand and rests on the waves.
The Maiden of Lorelei is introduced, and she calls his ship across the sea with the sweetness of her song. The singer is seeking treasure on the shore, and the seagulls cry for the sailors lost on their voyage to her. He finds peace and rest in her embrace as he sets his ship to sail towards her. The chorus is a memorable one, using metaphors to illustrate the power of love. If wishes are stallions, then kisses are galleons. Dreamers sail on the sea of love.
The following verses introduce the "Angel of evermore" as a savior from heaven, and the healing found in her wings. The beauty of nature is evident in the lyrics, as the melting snow and perfume of mountain flowers signal springtime. The ocean waves on desert shores are explored by the ship of dreams as dreamers sail on the sea of love. The chorus repeats, and the song ends with the repetition of "Love" on the sea of love.
