1. The Movement is a rock/reggae/hip hop band originally formed in Columbia, South Carolina, USA in 2004. The original lineup consisted of Josh Swain, Jordan Miller and Jon Ruff (DJ Riggles).
In March 2004 they released their first studio album, On Your Feet, which was recorded and mixed in 24 studio hours at Pat Casey's Modern Music Studios in Columbia, South Carolina. On Your Feet has proved a mainstay of the reggae/rock genre and is listed at #9 on ThePier.org's 10 Essential Reggae Rock Albums.
The band continued to build their following with nonstop touring throughout the Southeastern United States. They enjoyed success in opening for national acts such as Steel Pulse, Blues Traveler, Slightly Stoopid, The Wailers, Ludacris, G. Love & Special Sauce, Common, Long Beach Shortbus, Wu-Tang Clan and 311. Their fanbase was growing steadily but the band wasn't breaking any new ground and the trio began losing interest. After DJ Riggles left the band, the remaining duo found themselves at a crossroads until meeting Philadelphonic Studios producer Chris DiBeneditto (Philadelphonic Records), who was looking for new talent to work with and, having seen the band several times, knew they had enormous potential. Swain and Miller dedicated themselves to their craft and made the move to Philadelphia to record their newest material at Philadelphonic. Chris put his experience with G. Love & Special Sauce, Slightly Stoopid and The Expendables to work on what was to become The Movement's second studio album, 2008's Set Sail. To solidify the band's lineup, DiBeneditto contacted local drummer Gary Jackson to sit-in with Swain and Miller. The three hit it off immediately and Jackson brought in his friend, guitarist Jay Schmidt, to play bass. The four of them proved to be a dynamic quartet and so the current lineup was settled. In late 2010 Swain left the band and Miller took over lead vocals. Miller enlisted the help of an old friend John Bowling (Johnny Keys) to join the band and play keyboard. The new lineup went into the studio in the fall of 2011 to record a new album One More Night which was released in March of 2012. On April 20, 2012 the band suddenly broke up and canceled the rest of the tour. Miller stated he needed a break while Schmidt stated that Miller left to pursue a solo career. In May 2012, it was announced that Swain would rejoin the band and assume lead vocals once more. Bowling had already left the band following the breakup the previous month. The new trio of Swain, Jackson, and Schmidt would continue on. They are slated to release a new album in the Summer of 2013 entitled, Side by Side.
After extensive touring across the United States, The Movement has found new life and is currently gaining huge momentum on the shoulders of their well-received sophomore album.

The Movement Lyrics

Maybe you've been feeling down and out
cnd it seems that no one understands
What you're feeling down about
Well it can't be easy running in circles
Round and round
When it seems like just yesterday
We were living loud and proud
Everywhere you look all you see is danger
Wish you could just deal with all this later
But you're a lion
cnd you won't just put up
With this hatred and anger
Yeah I know it's a jungle out there
But don't be scared
Just stay cool and be humble
Yeah I know it's a struggle
But if you're kind you can step inside
When the thunder starts to rumble
I heard that lately
Maybe nothing is what it's supposed to be
It seems like I lost everybody that was ever close to me
I don't know why
But I feel like it was just owed to me
Now I know if I want to reap the harvest
Then first I gotta sow the seed
But it's hard when all these faces look like strangers
Everywhere I go all I see is danger
Wish I could just deal with all this later
But I'm a lion
cnd I won't just put up
With this hatred and anger
Yeah I know it's a jungle out there
But don't be scared
Just stay cool and be humble
Yeah I know it's a struggle
But if you're kind you can step inside
When the thunder starts to rumble
They say love is an island
But life is a jungle under the silence
Cause even over the sirens
We're deaf to the sounds of hunger and violence
cnd then we open our eyelids
cnd look in the mirror, see a pride of lions
We got nothing to hide in
We're all just stardust
Check the science
If I glance over at you
I see nothing but the same thing staring at me
You see, everything is all connected
We're all neglected, we're all rejected
But we're not skipping a beat
Cause we all share the same heart
One love, one soul, one truth
cnd the truth is
None of us are getting out of this alive
So c'mon tell me what you're gonna do
Yeah I know it's a jungle out there
But don't be scared
Just stay cool and be humble
Yeah I know it's a struggle
But if you're kind you can step inside
When the thunder starts to rumble
Yeah I know it's a jungle out there
But don't be scared
Just stay cool and be humble
Yeah I know it's a struggle
But if you're kind you can step inside
When the thunder starts to rumble
The lyrics to The Movement's song "Jungle" speak to the challenges and hardships of life, using the metaphor of a jungle to describe the chaotic and unpredictable nature of the world. The song acknowledges that it can be difficult to navigate through life's trials and tribulations, and people often feel misunderstood and alone in their struggles. The opening stanza conveys the message that running in circles and feeling lost is not easy, especially when the world feels unfamiliar and dangerous. However, the song encourages resilience and strength, comparing the listener to a lion who refuses to succumb to hatred and anger. The chorus reassures that despite the jungle-like nature of the world, staying cool, humble, and kind can help one find their place amidst the thunderous struggles.
In the second verse, the lyrics shift to the perspective of the singer, who shares their own feelings of loss and isolation. The lyrics suggest that the singer believed they were owed something in life and highlights the difficulty of accepting that hard work and effort are necessary to achieve personal growth and success. Just like in the first verse, the singer emphasizes the challenge of facing the unknown and the danger that seems to lurk everywhere. However, their lion-like determination and refusal to accept hatred and anger remain unchanged.
The final verse introduces the themes of love, unity, and interconnectedness. The lyrics point out the contrast between the isolation and violence that pervades society and the deeper truth that we are all connected, like a pride of lions or stardust. The song urges listeners to recognize this interconnectedness and the shared humanity that binds us together. It prompts reflection on the choices we make and asks the listener to consider their role in the larger context of life. The song concludes with the reminder that no one escapes this life alive, emphasizing the importance of embracing kindness and unity in the face of the jungle-like challenges around us.
Line by Line Meaning
I heard that lately
Recently, I've been informed
Maybe you've been feeling down and out
Perhaps you have been experiencing sadness and hopelessness
And it seems that no one understands
It appears that nobody comprehends
What you're feeling down about
The reasons behind your emotional state
Well it can't be easy running in circles
It must be challenging to be stuck in repetitive patterns
Round and round
Continuously and without progress
When it seems like just yesterday
When it feels as if only a short while ago
We were living loud and proud
We were confidently expressing ourselves
Now all these faces seem like strangers
Currently, unfamiliar faces surround us
Everywhere you look all you see is danger
No matter where you turn, danger is apparent
Wish you could just deal with all this later
Desire to address these issues at a more convenient time
But you're a lion
However, you are strong and fearless
And you won't just put up
And you refuse to tolerate
With this hatred and anger
The negativity and hostility
Yeah I know it's a jungle out there
Yes, I am aware that the world can be a difficult place
But don't be scared
Yet, you should not be afraid
Just stay cool and be humble
Remain calm and modest
Yeah I know it's a struggle
Indeed, I understand the hardships
But if you're kind you can step inside
However, if you show kindness, you can find acceptance
When the thunder starts to rumble
During challenging times
Maybe nothing is what it's supposed to be
Perhaps things are not as they should be
It seems like I lost everybody that was ever close to me
It feels as though I have lost everyone who was once dear to me
I don't know why
I cannot explain the reason
But I feel like it was just owed to me
Yet, I have an unwarranted sense of entitlement
Now I know if I want to reap the harvest
Now I understand that to achieve success
Then first I gotta sow the seed
I must put the initial effort
But it's hard when all these faces look like strangers
Yet, it is difficult when everyone appears unfamiliar
Everywhere I go all I see is danger
Wherever I travel, dangers surround me
Wish I could just deal with all this later
I wish to postpone handling these issues
But I'm a lion
However, I am brave and courageous
And I won't just put up
And I will not tolerate
With this hatred and anger
The negativity and hostility
They say love is an island
People claim that love is isolated
But life is a jungle under the silence
Yet, life is chaotic and unpredictable
Cause even over the sirens
Despite the blaring sirens
We're deaf to the sounds of hunger and violence
We remain oblivious to the cries of hunger and violence
And then we open our eyelids
Once we awaken and become aware
And look in the mirror, see a pride of lions
And observe our reflection, recognizing our strength
We got nothing to hide in
We have no secrets to conceal
We're all just stardust
We are all made of celestial matter
Check the science
Consult scientific research for proof
If I glance over at you
If I glance in your direction
I see nothing but the same thing staring at me
I perceive nothing other than a reflection of myself
You see, everything is all connected
You understand that everything is interrelated
We're all neglected, we're all rejected
We are all disregarded and excluded
But we're not skipping a beat
Nevertheless, we continue without missing a step
Cause we all share the same heart
Because we all have the same capacity for compassion
One love, one soul, one truth
We possess unity, a shared essence, and a common reality
And the truth is
And the reality is
None of us are getting out of this alive
None of us can ultimately escape mortality
So c'mon tell me what you're gonna do
Therefore, let me know your intended course of action
