In 2001 the song Take the Long Road and Walk It circulated as a demo, before being released by Fierce Panda. The band were quickly signed by EMI/Virgin imprint, Hut, who released their first EP You Might as Well Try to Fuck Me.
In 2002, following another EP, The People, they released their eponymous debut album.
In Autumn 2004, they released their second album, Welcome to the North, and the accompanying single Freedom Fighters, before touring with Incubus. One of the singles from the album, Breakin', became a hit on American rock radio.
Their eagerly awaited third album entitled Strength in Numbers was released in June 2008. However, in September 2010, singer/songwriter Robert Harvey confirmed the group's intention to split, and on 31 March 2011 the band announced a series of farewell shows in Japan and the UK.

The Music Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Do you worry anymore
How's it feel up there
So much left to say
If I could tell your thoughts right now
It would never be the same
Wait til I am by your side
Then the meaning will come true
You're love will find a better way
Everybody wants you to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody,everybody wants to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody wants you to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody,everybody wants to know
We are nearly there
Do you get to see the love
Can you understand my thoughts
Seeing as no-one else here can
When you see the light
Does your pain just disappear
Will I ever feel your love
Once again my dear
You're love will find a better way
Everybody wants you to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody,everybody wants to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody wants you to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody,everybody wants to know
What's it like up there
How's it feel up there
What's it like up there
How's it feel up there
You're love will find a better way
Everybody wants you to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody,everybody wants to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody wants you to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody,everybody wants to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody wants you to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody,everybody wants to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody wants you to know
You're love will find a better way
Everybody,everybody wants to know
The Music's song "Getaway" is a poignant and melancholic exploration of love, loss, and longing. The lyrics are directed toward a departed lover, with the singer musing on what life might be like for the object of their affection "up there." They wonder if their lover worries anymore, and if they can still feel love and understand the singer's thoughts from afar. Despite their physical separation, the singer remains hopeful that one day they will be reunited, and that their love will find a way to flourish once again.
The chorus of the song is repetitive but powerful, with the words "your love will find a better way" echoing throughout. This phrase serves as a mantra of sorts, repeating the message that love is resilient and can overcome any obstacle. Everyone wants the subject of the song to know that their love will find a way, and the repeated chorus emphasizes the universal nature of this sentiment.
Overall, "Getaway" is a beautiful and emotional song that speaks to the human experience of longing for someone who is physically absent. It offers a message of hope and resilience, reminding us that even when things seem impossible, love can always find a way.

I'm going to agree with the name (The Music is a terrible name for a band). However, I also think their fashion sense played a huge part.
Image is really important for a band too. Let's look at some of the other bands that came out at the time. The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand and The Hives all had a uniform look with certain colours. Coldplay used to go around in dark, buttoned-up coats or other winter clothing, which went well with their mellow music and the "cold" in their name. Maroon 5 had that hot guy, beachy California vibe. The Strokes had that underground New York look with the leather jackets and tight jeans. The Killers wore a lot of colourful collared shirts with blazers or vests (often with ties). Kings of Leon had that Americana, '70s rock look. And then there were people like Sum 41, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte and Avril Lavigne, who had that skater, pop punk look.
The Music look like they had bought their clothes from Sports Direct. They'd go on stage wearing tracksuits and a baggy T-shirt with a massive Adidas logo on it. The guitarist and bassist look particularly bad in this video, in their loose-fitting bootcut jeans and tracksuit tops.
I know Arctic Monkeys wore a lot of jeans and tracksuits when they came out a few years later, but it went well with the style of music they made at the time (songs about being young lads, going out to clubs and getting up to mischief). I think The Music really should've gone with a more hippie or psychedelic '60s look. Paisley shirts, bell bottoms, beads or medallions, etc.
With the way they looked, I don't think they were able to get enough of a female following. They ended up becoming a band for blokes.

These guys have to be among the most underrated bands of all times.
@DJleDev
they were, they are...
I still remember this in 2002... I was only 11 years old(now 31) and this was one of my favourite songs then...
@dirtystreamer
@Robert it was a Killer.Kind of Revolution, that never happens.Not for the Band.Not for the Label but for the listener.
@zavinullava
I'm old enough to remember how insanely overhyped they were. The future of music, the best unsigned band, the most important new band since Oasis, take your pick. They were good, but nowhere near as earth-shattering as they were supposed to be.
@BedtimeStoriesChannel
Seriously, the "underrated" comment is like a meme at this point. We see it in every single YouTube comment section of every single song of every single band. Except maybe The Beatles.

I never understood why The Music was not as massive as they deserve. Their 3 LP are very good.
@tamcon72
Their name. Doing a search for them on most search engines confuses the search engine. It was a terrible choice.
