Who Are You Talking To?
The Naked and Famous Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There is no light
No one. No one.
The lyrics to The Naked and Famous's song "Who Are You Talking To?" are about a feeling of intense isolation and loneliness. The opening lines, "there is no life outside this house / there is no light" suggest that the singer is shut off from the outside world, unable to connect with anyone or anything beyond the walls around them. The repetition of "no one" only reinforces this sense of separation and abandonment.
The song is not just about physical isolation, however, but also emotional disconnection. The repetition of "who are you talking to?" suggests a lack of communication and breakdown of relationships, as though the singer is unable to properly connect with those around them. The line "Who are you speaking for?" adds a layer of confusion and frustration, as though the singer feels that they are being misrepresented or not understood by others.
Overall, "Who Are You Talking To?" is a powerful exploration of the experience of feeling alone and misunderstood. Despite its bleak lyrics, the song also contains a sense of defiance, as though the singer is determined to break free from their isolation and reach out to the world beyond.
