True Lies
The New Division Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I feel I've been here before
Looking at the sky above me
Staring down at the floor
I try to explain my reasons
The logic of simpleness
But the reasoning of the moment
You never hear what I say
You never see what I do
You always just get your way
I'm so confused
I think of what you do all day
I wonder if what you think is true
You always get what you want
I can't trust you...
[repeat all]
The lyrics of The New Division's song True Lies talks about a feeling of déjà vu, a sense of being in the same situation again - of feeling trapped, confused and unable to trust someone. The singer is in a relationship or a friendship where he/she feels unheard and unseen - always being overpowered and disregarded by the other person. The lyrics suggest an attempt to justify feelings to the other person, but it remains a futile exercise as the other person always gets their way. The singer finds it challenging to believe the other person in this relationship, as they always seem to hide their true intentions.
The repetition of the lines like "You never hear what I say, You never see what I do" and "You always just get your way, I'm so confused" highlights the feeling of the singer being powerless and ignored. The line "I can't trust you" lyrics provides the climax of the emotional turmoil that the singer is going through. Overall, the lyrics of True Lies are about an emotionally-draining relationship where one person feels ignored, unheard, abandoned, and left questioning the other person's motives and feelings.

Sorry guys (in case you're a band), I appreciate your efforts but what already stinks is the very name.
"New Division", you say? Yeah, right.
And the reason I post here is not due to a trolling attempt but because I saw your sponsored advert that appeared out of nowhere on my Facebook profile, asking "whether I like New Order, Tears For Fears and Depeche Mode", insisting "if I do, then I should like New Division".
Of course - I do like New Order, Tears For Fears and Depeche Mode. To bits. And I will continue to like THEM. Whatever for should I like you along with them, I am not sure... But it's definitely not your music.
Because, no matter how hard you try with your ultra glossy high tech production, this still sounds so painfully generic a hype and so unbearably pretentious in trying to be compared to the giants. No hard feelings, but you're nowhere near.
