Former ballerinas turned songstresses, they released their self-titled debut in 2000 with Epic. The album was met with lukewarm reception, but the girls were undeterred. After moving to New York, they released Light Of The Moon with Universal in 2005, with similar luck. After leaving the label and their manager to make some serious changes, they recorded their third album with producer Roger Greenawalt and after having opened a week's worth of shows for Albert Hammond Jr. [Catherine Pierce's fiancee] in November 2006, the girls were greeted with much more enthusiastic reception and excellent press.
Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge was released in April 2007.
The Pierces recently gained even more press when they were featured on the December 5th episode of the hit TV show, "Gossip Girl".
However, despite Catherine's high-profile celebrity romance with the Strokes guitarist, Albert Hammond Jr., the increased publicity didn't translate into sales.
According to the You'll Be Mine Songfacts, the siblings were on the verge of calling it a day when a friend of theirs, Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, offered to produce them. The result was The Pierces fourth album, You & I, their first release after signing to Polydor.

Well I thought I liked that you're uptight, baby
Well it's a mystery to me how you keep on slipping in my mind
And it's downright dirty that this old wound won't heal with time
Well you could wash my brain
You could tear out my heart
But I would never forget you
You could change my world
I could make a new start
But I would never forget you
And it's kill, kill, killing me
And it's kill, kill, killing me
That I'm still in love with you
Just when I think I've got you in safe keeping
That's when your memory, it comes 'round creeping
Well it's an ache I can't shake and it's creeped down deep into my core
But babe I can't fake it, I can't take this heartbreak anymore
Well you could wash my brain
You could tear out my heart
But I would never forget you
You could change my world
I could make a new start
But I would never forget you
And it's kill, kill, killing me
And it's kill, kill, killing me
That I'm still in love with you
I asked you please to leave my heart but you refused to go
I can't take this pain much longer
You insist on teaching me what I already know
Absence made this heart grow fonder
The Pierces's song "Kill" is a heartfelt depiction of a love that just won't go away. The first verse begins with the singer questioning why her ex-lover keeps appearing in her dreams, even though she thought she had moved on. She finds it frustrating and "downright dirty" that the wound left by the breakup hasn't healed with time. Despite this, she acknowledges that she will always remember and love this person, no matter what.
The second verse delves into the pain of constantly being reminded of this love. Just when the singer thinks she has moved on, memories of this person come creeping back into her mind, causing an ache that she just can't shake. She pleads with them to leave her heart, but they refuse to go, leaving her with the realization that absence only made her heart grow fonder.
Overall, the song is a beautiful and powerful exploration of the complexities of love and heartbreak. It captures the feeling of wanting to move on but being unable to, as well as the pain of trying to forget someone who has left an indelible mark on your heart.
