1. the pillows (ザ・ピロウズ) are an alternative rock band from Hokkaidō, Japan, best known outside Japan for their contributions to the soundtrack of the anime series FLCL (Fooly Cooly).
They consist of 山中さわお (Sawao Yamanaka) -vocals & guitar-, 真鍋吉明 (Yoshiaki Manabe) -guitar-, 佐藤シンイチロウ (Shinichiro Sato) -drums-.
The band officially formed on September 16, 1989 as a four-man group. The fourth man and original bassist, (Kenji Ueda), left the band in 1992 to become a music producer and do solo work. Since then, 鹿島達也 (Tatsuya Kashima) and later 鈴木淳 (Jun Suzuki) have taken his place as supporting bassists. Neither Kashima nor Suzuki have been named official members out of respect for Ueda.

The Pillows Lyrics

My beautiful sunflower
In the town, you are the most beautiful one. You are the sunflower and I am the crescent moon. We can meet at the dawn's border, but the sun will take you away soon. Everyone is waiting for the warm light that illuminates the whole world.
I am the crescent moon that shines only when you are sleeping. No matter how strong my light is, it's not dazzling. Inspired by the stars, I shine blue tonight, but I can't turn back. I see my unfulfilled dreams breaking down into pieces.
I keep singing lullabies that you don't know. I am the crescent moon that can't even be a full moon. The sun is completely in a different world. You smile like a painting in summer, more beautiful than anyone else. I'm in love with you, but it feels like I'm being sucked into the darkness.
The lyrics of "Beyond the Moon" by The Pillows are poetic and metaphorical. The song talks about an unattainable love between the sunflower and the crescent moon. The moon is envious of the sun that takes away the beautiful sunflower it loves. The lyrics also depict the transience of life, the inevitability of losing what we love, and the hopelessness of unrequited love.
